but yet that borked sharpshooter skill to lvl 5 is a requirement for t2 guns and screws your close range with the way it works.

ya they really need to change(atleast look into it) that a bit for that very reason. not everyone wants the added range of the sharp shooter skill as it appears to ruin your close range combat abilities ESPECIALLY in large guns.
I wouldn't have trained it past lvl 1
if they added a 2% tracking bonus to the skill it would help fix the close range combat ability of large guns at the same time giving you the sharp shooter range bonus.
but then again I hate when common sense overides things.
if they gonna make the skill at lvl 5 as a requirement, they should atleast make it so it works through the whole spectrum ......not just the long range optimal
ppppppppp[insert smiley blowing raspberry here] on the sharp shooter skill

Edited by: X'Alor on 24/11/2004 18:33:19 my info is wrong but yet no dev or anyone of importance has ever made any comment about it if i am wrong or not even when asked.
i just love how game players post how it works when they don't know the basis of the range bonus equation and it's affects on the near side FOR SURE.
guess you didn't see the mile long thread about the gentleman that was using tach beams on his scorp and figured they'd be better on the apoc being that is where they belong.
or any of my threads about six monthes ago asking for help and dev explaination of how that works for sure.
and the apoc has a range bonus
and the sharp shooter skill has a range bonus
.....are the sharp shooter skill and ship range bonus figured in the same fashion? if they are then that explains why it shows up most on long range large guns on ships that have range bonuses.
and asked if ANY dev or gm could look into that and post on it or make ANY comment but yet nothing.
As it still stands and has never been commented on by a DEV and have been blatantly asked in forums by me personally many many times without a single comment from one of them.
It APPEARS and shows up most using long range large beam lasers ON THE APOC and that fact was reinforced by this gentleman using them on scorp and couldn't hit anything close in apoc but can with scorp. Everything else is the same except for the range bonus given on apoc.
If I'm wrong so be it but I'd prefer that come from a dev or gm(someone that knows for sure how that is programmed) and not from someone that may never have been in that situation to test that "affect" for themselves
And don't bring up them pretty to look at charts and graphs about the guns.
this has nothing to do with the guns, it has to do with the range bonus and it's AFFECT on the near side of the long range large guns. those graphs don't show the range bonus or how it's figured or applied.

now maybe we can focus back on the query as opposed to discussing between players the "affect" the sharp shooter skill has on near side shooting
