Edited by: Zilverdolk on 27/01/2010 11:04:02 I like to know if its possible to create something new in the game like drones T3 that can be fitted and trained for better results. To have a drone that is trained and fitted the way you like it. Drones T3 that can fly by your command to : scan, salvage, mining, guarding, attack, cloacking, warfare, drone formation - with other drones max(25),re-establish control to command , etc....
And for every corporation/alliance , to have her/his own logo on a ship and drone to see at the outside from what corporation/alliance they are from.

me and a few alliance members were chating about drones that can salvage, scan and get items from wracks. as well as having them jump with you. but i don't think they should be tech 3 the prices for those could be a pain. maybe you can have the tech 3 drones as well as tech 1 and 2 drones that do the jobs but they would only be able to do one while the tech 3 can do all of them. it only makes since to have salvaging drones.
buts as good as more drone types would be tho, maybe they should focus on more important things

Drones salvaging/looting has always in fact been a technical problem-the issue of hwo to handle loot management internally in the drone and transferring it to the parent ship. |

It would be great to have drones that can learn from what it does,... to specialize it with experience points, or upgrade items.

And how about training and fitting a drone , that would be something new, maybe good for a T3 Drone to work with T3 ships.

Could this not be a matter of nano-technology?
Basically break down the item in question at the wreck, and rebuild it once back at your ship... Just a thought.

a tractor drone, would be my suggestion.
make it a heavy, but with increased bandwidth demands, and require racial drone specialization 3 and "tractor drone 1"
Tractor drone 1 (skill) +5% drone tractor range per level

Drones by design should take away micromanagement - the unfortunate thing in the game is that the designers have made them require more micromanagement due to an aweful, aweful AI.
With the basics of a decent "configurable" AI, like a setting for Rep drones auto-repping friendly fleet targets, drones returning to bay on disconnect or when taking hull damage, auto-launching when guns fired etc - then T3 drones might be viablem especially with increased utility.
But the likelyhood of CCP getting it to work is very low considering how poor drones have been for years probably coz they are a very low priority for CCP.
I mean - a drone "expansion" - how many new subscribers would they get coz of that?

I don't support this, as drones are...well, drones. The concept of micromanagement as stated, is pretty tight, but as a long-time drone user and lover, I can't support this. It would make things a lot more technical, but if you get down to it, you burn thru thousands of drones over the span of game time (I'm talking years). I don't think it would be all that useful to the average player, beings it would take up a crapload of game time.
What I would suggest, tho, to add to this topic, is being able to fit fighters and fighter bombers. I think the capital pilot would find that more useful than the average pilot in a cruiser wanting to outfit his tech 2 drones. That, I believe, could be very useful.
A couple other points I wanted to make, would be on the subject of what would you equip them with? This would be interesting, because you would most likely have to train more skills in drones to be able to equip the items you wanted to on your drones, and CCP would have to make another market subcategory of Drones called something like "Drone Equipment". They'd have to come up with more T1 modules, and T2 modules, oh, and don't forget faction modules and officer modules.
There's just too much extra crap that would go along with that, so in the long run, not very useful at all.
Maybe they could go over the idea for fighters and fighter bombers, that would be interesting.

CCP - 1. Replace the poorly-conceived chance-based salvaging mechanic. 2. Design salvaging drones that operate similar to mining drones. 3. Have the art team spend six months poorly-skinning the existing mining drone model. 4. Ask for player feedback in Test Server Feedback. 5. Scrub the idea after two people complain. 6. Implement the idea two years later without mention of it in the patch notes. 7. Patch the twelve things that this new feature broke ... hooray for QA. 8. Fix the drone AI for the 873rd time. 9. ? 10. Profit.

All joking aside, I do believe that the idea of a salvaging drone, or a "Tractoring/Retrieving" drone (that would bring wrecks to you) should be considered.
