Simply put, it's an oversized iTouch with limited internet capability if you shell out for the $830 64GB 3G capable model. It doesn't run modified OS X, just the iTouch OS, which means it can't run normal software, and it can't multi-task. You can't even surf/read an iBook and listen to music on that thing. Not a good move by Apple in my mind, but it'll still sell like hotcakes I'm sure.

Chainsaw Plankton IDLE GUNS IDLE EMPIRE	Posted - 2010.01.28 01:03:00 - [14] hmm the keyboard is on the screen, so if you want to type on it like a keyboard you put it on your lap and look down? that sounds bad for the back/neck (okay laptops aren't that much better, but a bit less of an angle) or I guess you can hold it in 1 hand and poke letters with the other hand. that just doesn't seem well thought out at all. the net books are just cheap laptops line was fantastic, of course they are cheap laptops. wasn't that the point!? and tbh job's voice just sounded like he didn't care when he was talking about the thing. also what setting do people use these things in? at home/work I have a full sized monitor. On a train/bus I don't think I'd want anything that I couldn't stick in my pocket. at school the larger screen of a laptop is nice, plus if I have that much time I'm getting a device out of my bag whats wrong with the laptop. plus I'm probably going to be there for at least an hour, and will want to run a full program. also he says it is fast, well tbh the details given really don't mean a damn thing.

My problem with is it has a screen that will break easier than a laptop in a book bag, runs a cellphone OS, has inferior hardware to most computers / laptops at the same price point, and can only run programs Apple blesses. Wouldn't be a problem if Apple was less restrictive, but when they decide to block apps from industry leader (read: Google Voice) it speaks poorly of them. Having said all that, I think I'd like to see Eve running on a touch screen. The idea of being able to flick scroll through overview, doubletap someone to target and the actually press the circles to start off turrets, hardeners etc. Just seems nifty to me. Sadly, a decent touch screen for gaming is around $370, last I looked, and there's no guarantee it'd work well (if at all).

I like a lot of Apple's products; and 2. that I was hoping this thing was going to run a more proper version of OS X and not a glorified iPhone OS. Who knows, maybe they will bring out a proper tablet in the future. But myself and some people in this thread are coming at this from the thought of "So it's not a laptop then? FAIL!" whereas if you think of it compared to the Kindle, as a next gen e-book reader that does internet, movies, music AND the great app store on top, it's actually pretty cool for the price. That's not to say it will necessarily be that practical or carve out the niche they are hoping for. I think it will either gain as much popularity as the iPhone/iTouch or it will fall like a brick, no inbetween. - Wuffles
