I have been looking at getting into a Black Ops BS.
Not really sure why, since I am not part of any null sec group currently.
Anyone noting my posts might know why. But I believe it could be a fun ship, even with the huge cost involved.
Anyway, though it is quite excellent that the Black ops suffers no penalty to Stennson time due to the cloak bonus, I think a discussion about a buff to the sensor resolution on the Blops might be in order.
Do people use the ship in null / low to Stensson and tackle other ships, or do they let other members of the squad with better scan res perform that function?
How do most people use the Blops? |

Generally you want other people to tackle because they do have slower lock times than your support.
They don't actually need a scan rez boost because they lock faster than several other battleships, a sensor booster helps aswell.
- Set up somewhere.
- Send cynos around
- Bridge and jump to the person who has found something.
- Fight
- Disappear

The primary role of blops is to bridge other covert ships. They have superior agility and lock times compared to other BS. However, CCP in its infinite wisdom decided not to give them T2 resist profiles. So they don't tank as well as line BS. Apart from the other blops, the Widow with it's ECM bonuses is the only EWAR-bonused blops, and can go toe-to-toe with other front-line BS and win with reasonable certainty.

there are many ways blackops are used.
The best people at it are hands down Burn Eden
Typically they do a cyno and jump you with 10+ blackops with remote rep drones to spider tank and blast you to hell.
Its very good tactic and you dont stand a chance. With faction fittings it makes them very hard to kill. Its very expensive though but to take them out you will need a well fitted fleet and you will need to out number them. If they are good at it, it would be very tough to kill unless you dps is really really high and can out damage the rep of 5 heavy drones per blackops!!
Another common way but more used in lowsec is to have 2/3 black ops and 7/8 others which are a mix of stealth bomber + recon like arazu/pilgrim + tech 3 cruiser with covertops fitting. Its much cheaper and less risky if you lose the fleet but has less tank and dps.
Resolution speed buff is not required. The reason is simple. The cyno ship can tackle and cyno simultaneously. When the blakcops jumps in, they instantaly can rep the cyno ship. However you put it. The target is tackled and dead in seconds.
PS: you have to plate heavely the arazu. Arazu is best for it.
In all of these tactics, you cyno in, kill and cyno out in less than 8 minutes. Speed is the key! |

They are not meant to be used in empire. Much like capitals, bombers, interdictors, hictors, and all the other fun stuff.

Changing Black Ops scan resolution to 15,000 won't buff it significantly. It will still be cheaper to use an interceptor as an instalock ship for gate camps in lowsec. Black Ops ships can fit covert cynosural field generators and covert jump portals, and that is what makes them unique. They could be a weak frigate that was able to fit those and they'd still be worth millions of SP and hundreds of millions of ISK to fly.
Nobody "flies" a Black Ops. Some people have one in their hangar which they pull out on occasion to drive major events along. But most of the time, they fly other ships.
Someday I'll get a Widow. It's my dream ship. And I hope I get to make good use of it even once in my EVE career.
