I don't think it could be any clearer.....
A firm set of rules that is adhered to is far better than relying on GM discretion.... Most of us old-timers remember the s***-storm about GM's being more friendly to some players than others. A consistent policy means that is less likely to happen again.
We all KNOW that the server can't handle big fights at the moment. I'm fairly sure CCP knows too... Whining about it again and again is not helping any, well except underlining what a whiny brat the OP is...
At the moment, if you don't want that laggy experience, why do you participate in the blobfests? If you're suddenly expecting different results, then your naivety is astounding... Just stay away! It'll make the forums more pleasant without your whining, and it'll make the lag less for the people there who accept the status quo (didn't say they like it).
Also for the people complaining... Were you at the Sisi test yesterday?

IMO it is rather obvious that the quality of the technical implementation is not ranking very high on the priority list. Of course they try to keep the game running as best as they can.
But as long as there are enough people on the forums shoving the "they don't have 50,000 testers" argument in everyone's face who starts shaking his/her head at a simple thing like a jukebox that's broken for months or a patch simply deleting everyone's saved fittings (except for one of course) there is not much need to improve that anyway.
And before someone starts with that - NO, I don't mean those bugs are the most important ones and should be fixed immediately. I mean those things should be working properly in the first place. It's not like CCP is breaking some technological barrier with having an MP3 player in a game.
It's not the fact that fixing bugs takes that too much time - it's the fact that bugs are introduced so often. Developing and delivering software is not about preventing bugs, it's about prevening bugs from being released, because only the bugs that affect your customer are the ones that matter. (Well the other bugs can screw up your schedule, but when you start to intentionally deliver bugs to make them screw up your customer instead you're at least clear about your priorities).

Am I the only one disgusted? Thats like EVERY TIME 2 nations went to war whichever side blobbed the battlefield last had to stand still while being shot one after the other...
THIS is NOT why i spend hours grinding isk.

Knowing where atlas is cirrently fighting...
i damn well know we experience the exact same problem.
I dont mind a few people logged out, even if im always lucky wich i doub verry much, yet havingt half ur fleet not loading grid, whilst all ur enemy has doesnt make it a fair fight, its just a meatfest.
Then again, we can always take the game to highsec and do some wardecs and fight it out in dodixie, jita and the other tradehubs... Might be fun ;)

No. Maturely recognizing the fact that patches can cause issues like this is not this communities strong point.
Clear thinking is not the communities strong point. As OP is evidence for. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Have a notebook handy ready to login to your account. Create an alt in a n00b system. When you see that the node is not responding, login your n00b alt in Hi Sec. Your cap ship pilot should immediately disappear, and not even e-warp off-grid. Just poof.
The same account cannot be logged in twice, and the most recent login wins. If you get a killmail for your capital ship, now you have proof that it couldn't have been shot down.
Game. Set. Match.

Unless something has changed i've been able to log into my alt and have myself sitting right next to me, marked as online in my addressbook and take up to 5 minutes to disappear. That was a while back (Pre Apoc) but i haven't read anything in patchnotes specific about this changing. _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

There's already plenty of fighting at 4-4 in Jita :P People really like playing docking games there. I have yet to go there and there aren't tons of people shooting eachother. I sometimes wait patiently for someone to pop to try and gank their wreck, but usually they make it back in station before popping

it doesn't work like that. Here's why. Let's assume a nice fair 1000 pilots aside. Alliance A decides to invade alliance B's space and they do it your way. they send 500 pilots to system X and 500 to system Y. Now assuming the node doesn't die, alliance B sends all 1000 pilots to system X and kills the 500 people there then sends all 1000 pilots to system Y and kills the other 500.
Unless you can provide a way to force the defender to split up as well it won't ever work. Not in these times of titan bridges and jump bridge networks. -

I look at the lag like I look at Jita. When I first started over 2 years ago, 300 people in that system was a nightmare. They upgraded the servers, 600 people now, laggy. Gave it its own server, now there's 1,000 people in system and it gets laggy.
It's not CCP's fault you don't want to play a game with small skirmishes of 100 vs 100, there's no real way to force it.
Max 1,000 people in system? Lets look at a very plausible scenario with today's alliance warfare:
Alliance (A) attacks alliance (B)'s TCU. Now, alliance (B) must defend their system so they bring 500 of their own people and 500 from friends of the alliance. The system now has its max of 1,000 players and there is absolutely no way a single (A) can get into the system.
It's up to the players to change the way we play this game, not force CCP to invent a Quantum computer that can handle all the calculations for massive fleet battles. There may be ways to force smaller gang warfare, but I can't think of any that can't be bypassed by our witty players.

Yeah like thats that way it works. Moar like alliance a sends 500 pilots to take a system then alliance b also sends 500 pilots but is steadily getting arse reaped so it makes a call to its allies to "SEND EVERYTHING!" regardless if it is a noob ship or something that could actually change the outcome of the fight. So 500 moar ships that couldn't make a rats arse difference in the fight are bridged/jumped in and pop goes the node.
Don't deny it because each and every one of you has used this exploit to keep a system you were losing. And yes I was there to see it on one of my various scout alts I always send to the big battles when I can.

This pretty much sums up the fleet/lag aspect of the game.
If ccp actually fixed the problem at the core, there would be no need for more hardware or anything.
For an actual fix to the situation, the sov devs would have had to actually use the time at their hands and create a better system, instead of just recreating the same system again.
In this system, the amount of goals is so small and they're so spread out in time, that large numbers will assemble because they have days to plan and call in allies. You need those numbers to get done with the job, too.
An actual solution to the problem is purely a game design one, and nothing else. ----------------------------------------------

I guess people forget that ccp already moastly busted large fleet fight lag when they went with the 64bit server code and the newest blades they could get their hands on. Then Dominion came along and screwed it up with whatever bit of offending code is causing all the current fleet fight ruckus. When it gets fixed then you can go about your new sov business like it is designed to be ran.

What is required to make supporting large battles in null is a rewrite of the way the nodes are supported by the hardware layer.
The server needs to be able to dynamically allocate hardware resources to systems according to their requirements. As far as I am aware this is something that CCP have been working on for a while, though obviously it is taking a lot of time.
I would agree that changes such as the HP buffs to the super caps have encouraged more blobbing as that is needed to kill these ships and shouldn't have been introduced when the architecture was not able to support the game play styles the mechanics encouraged.
Having the game design and server people put their heads together a little more often to keep the server capabilities and game mechanics in balance would make a lot of sense, rather than marketing and game design handing the infrastructure team impossible briefs. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- you seem determined to turn it into ******* Hollyoaks for neckbeards. |

The problem isnt that there wont be reimbursements. Its not even all the node server etc crashes or bugs.
Its the ****ing boring game mechanic which forces the players to blobb because you cant do anything in 0.0 without it.
you cant take sov, you cant shoot trillions hp npc structures zig millions times ( well actual you may, but hf without 200 bs or caps) etc.
all of eves 0.0 game is based on max numbers and pvp is only about the tactic to bring you in a less laggy situatation then your opponent and then kill him while he cant do anything.
good game

THIS!
It's amazing how quickly people start talking about technical limitations, lag being the players' fault, not enough hardware, "run your own MMO, if you think you can do it better", "other MMOs have worse lag" and completely ignore that this game from the very same company used to have less performance problems 2 months ago.
