A bit of a mining noob thread, but would appreciate advices.
I have been mining Veldspar with Orca+Hulk (mining with two accounts simultaneously) for months, but seeing that even with 1. good bonuses from Orca, and 2. perfect refining skills+high standing for reprocessing, the most I make is about 15 mil ISK/hour, not least because of the lowest possible Tritanium prices.
Looking at that, I decided to try another type of ore, but Scordite did not give much more (I mined without crystals, but still). I have heard that Omber is a good one to mine in high sec, and I do have T II Omber crystals. Should I head over to Gallente high sec and start mining it? Approximately how much would I make per hour with Hulk+Orca?
Thanks beforehand.

You won't make more no matter what you mine. Omber/Kernite are only worth more in very limited amounts, and only the basic versions (for L3/L4 mission-runner storylines). Refined they're worth even less than Veldspar.

Use this site as a basis (not a bible): BSAC Ore Prices Block Ukx does a good job of keeping it updated, it's a hassle free quick glance at recent ore prices. As you can see Scordite is pulling out ahead, followed closely by Plagioclase. These recent leaders are due to the pyerite prices remaining high for an extended time.
Omber is near worthless and has been on the bottom of this list (and any other list) since I started mining over a year ago. Don't mine pyroxeres either.
I would say the most stable high sec ore is kernite. It holds it's value well and is normally in the top 3, most of the time top 2 due to it's mineral spread.
All these values are the basic ore versions.

I read to quickly, 15 million an hour is pretty top rate FYI. Time to seek other avenues if this number is not to your liking.

Thanks for the replies and link.
I would have one more question: do the members of low-or null sec mining corporations make substantially more per hour? An approximate figure would be appreciated.

You can make some pretty nice ISK mining the ABC ores in 0.0...but you have to cope with the risk of 0.0 to mine those ores. Mercoxit is VERY valuable, but again...found only in deep 0.0.
I may be way off, but ABC can pull in >40mil/hour, Mercoxit 60+. Also, I now have one of those annoying sigs.

Here, start by reading this: Halada's Mining Guide Thread

My Orca pilot also pilots a Hulk as that makes more ISK. With Arkonor I average about 32 million per hour per Hulk, so 64 million per hour total.

..To the OP: I believe you would make more isk/hour if you put your Orca pilot into a Hulk. For an Orca's benefits to outweigh a Hulk, I think you need to have a setup with 1x Orca, and 3x Hulks. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

depends on his mining director skill.
I would argue the 1x orca 1x hulk versus 2x hulk.
Using the Orca as a hauler means you are always mining with that hulk. with 2x hulk you do not have MLU's and have to warp back and forth every 15 min or so taking about 2-3 min more off of your efficency.
The real sweet spot is 2x hulk 1x orca. with max boasting skills you gain about 45 % total yeild increase with Orca's. Not to mension the range increase from 15 km to 24 km.
Anything over 2 hulks and the orca boast acts as a multiplyer and your productivity increases dramaticly.
Recomendation... Anything over 4 hulks and 1 orca becomes quite the task to keep going while managing the orca. 6th account should be a freighter and keep the orca at the belt using the corp hanger to transfer ore from the orca to the frieghter. This is good for 0.0 mining as you can equip a tank on your orca and utlize the Ore hold and Cargo hold to build up about 100 K m3 and warp in with the Frieghter drain the orca and warp out.

I've tried taking ore out of a orca's corp hangar while in space and, last time i checked, it didn't work. Have they changed it now then? Or are you just assuming you can do it?

Last time i knew it worked... it was the only way to load a freighter in space. it's the same as using a Corp Hanger Array at a POS

What I know is: You cannot transfer Ore from an Orca to a Freighter in a Mining Belt. You cannot jettison a General Freight Container from a Freighter in Open Space. And the Orca has a to small Cargo bay to load a General Freight Container. So there is no possibility to transport Ore from a Mining Belt to a station with a freighter.

Edited by: Lord Fitz on 31/01/2010 16:25:08 A freighters cargo hold is totally inaccessible unless you are a) docked, or b) within 45 km of an online POS.
You can not even stack the contents much less play with containers in any other situation. Thus there are no circumstances where you can load anything into, or out of, a freighter while in a belt.

however an iteron V with a full rack of t2 expanders and 3 t1 cargo rigs should have no problem keeping up

The difference in yield per hour for each member of a fleet between a well-trained character flying a Hulk versus an Orca is about 35%.
The main advantage of having the Orca in fleet is that you increase your duty cycle to 100% (over the "fill up the Hulk, warp to station to empty the hold" method), right up until the Orca is packed full of ore. Since you can increase your duty cycle, you can use MLUs instead of cargo expanders, which means your yield will indirectly benefit from having an Orca in fleet (to the tune of about 18%, from two MLUs).
High sec mining doesn't get much better than finding a belt full of massive scordite at this point in time, unless you get one of those level 3 missions that has a belt full of gneiss.
