Recently one of my corpmates has had problems with eve audio and we are looking into using a third party audio system. I was wondering what other corps use. We would want something free and preferably user friendly. Thanks for your input

Get Vent, yes it costs money, but what? like $5 a month? Get everyone in the corp to chip in a buck via paypal. It's worth it if you use voice.

Mumble is free & open source - if your corp is pretty small (say 10-20 members) then setting up a Mumble server on your high-speed internet at home should work just fine. It's also cross platform - both the server and client will run on Windows/Mac/Linux/Whatever else.
Teamspeak is also free to run your own server. The server runs just fine on various OS's, but the client only really runs on Windows (yes, I am aware that a Linux client is available, but since it is more or less totally unmaintained and still uses OSS instead of ALSA it doesn't even count).
Ventrilo is, imo, the worst of the three. As a computer programmer, it's just horrifically designed. Honestly the Vent versus TS argument is going to rage on for all eternity however.
Tl;dr?
Mumble - free/open source, great for most purposes. It also has a bunch of cool features -- in-game display of who's talking, positional audio, and the ability to make other sounds on your system quit while someone is talking (removes the need to disable/turn way down EVE/music/etc.)
Teamspeak - free, generally speaking.
Ventrilo - costs money.
My corp uses Ventrilo just because we happen to have a paid server available to us, not because we like Ventrilo more.

People do vent and ts hosting for isk.
Hit up Conman, I use him for some stuff, he's awesome on the admin.
Mumble isn't bad, but scales poorly.
TS is something of the standard if you expect +100 people.

I'm not sure what you mean by "Mumble scales poorly" - as is true with all voice clients, if your server has a fat enough pipe then it will work just fine.
The only big problem with Mumble is that (afaik) there aren't many well-established hosting companies that offer it; if you want to have hundreds of people on your server, you had better have access to your own massive fat pipe or you're out of luck. That isn't really Mumble's fault, however. Actually, since both it and Teamspeak use the Speex codecs one would imagine they would use approximately equal bandwidth.
