What do you think is the best way to fit a Caldari control tower for defense? ("Buy a different control tower" is not an acceptable answer.) Discuss?

I like to fit projectiles to 'em myself, as missile turrets are terrible. Depends upon the situation, though. A rack of ECM just to irriate high-sec griefers can be quite amusing, as long as you have other guns (preferably non-CPU using) to online if it gets more dicey.

Don't use missiles, even for a caldari tower. Fit it just like any other tower, and use the lowest-PG batteries as your base type.
That said, your defense on a caldari death star is not going to be quite the level of the defense on other death stars. That's the price you pay for having more CPU to play with.

So, never use missiles, huh? That's too bad. Is it because they have poor DPS, or is there another reason?

Check them out, compared to turrets some time. You'll notice one thing very quickly. Turrets have insane, insane damage mods compared to similar ship modules; i.e small artillery vs a 280mm artillery, medium arty vs 720mm, etc, etc. Launchers have...Increased range. That's about it.
In addition, they take up CPU. All modules requiring CPU go offline the moment your tower goes into reinforced. Which is...erm..bad :)

Edited by: Mathrin on 30/01/2010 17:22:57 Everyone seems to be against missile turrets why is this? I can understand that you wouldnt want to load out every turret as missile but why not a few? Don't cruise missiles do good against battleships?

Hm, yeah, I see your point. Torpedo sentries do 2.5 times the damage of siege launchers. Medium beam sentries do 6 times the damage of tachyon beam lasers. I wonder why there's such a discrepancy?

Well, also check the fitting req's on them. Torp batteries take a -lot- less PG. However, as mentioned before, they take CPU, which is just murderously bad. It'd be interesting to see if they do similar DPS to medium batteries, if you factor it in CPU for CPU....

Most POS discussion takes place in the Science and Industry forum. You'll find a great thread on fitting a POS (POS Setups: Jump Bridge, Cyno Jam, Reactions, Moon Mine, LoSec Mining and Labs) in the sticky at the top of that forum; it is worth reading the entire thread.
