Unless I'm misunderstanding, the 'use active overview settings' option is not usable for the directional scan because the overview won't display scan probes. So, if you want to see probes, you have no way to filter the results down, which can lead to quite a long, unwieldy, list. Having to scroll every time you hit to scan, which is potentially quite often, is annoying. I would like to see the capability to create and manage filters specifically for the directional scan and that those filters allow you to select probes as well as the usual object types.
I am sure this has been suggested before, but with such a dicey search capability here...

it has and i said no, too easy. you might as well have a probe "alarm" for all the effort it would take to warn that someone was looking for you, 1 measly click every 2 secs. I honestly think it should be a bit harder than that --------------------------------------------

Fair point, but I disagree. If they want it to be tougher to spot danger with the scanner, they should make it chance based or something, not just have the UI be a pain to deal with. Or they could make it just show the size of the ship, not the type.

Obfuscating the UI is a punishing and sadistic form of game balance. If it's going to be possible to spot scan probes on directional scans, then it should be easy. Offering the functionality, but requiring us to sort the results by name and then scroll past thousands of wrecks and POS structures and moons to get to the entry we're looking for is cruel and shabby and it gives the prober all of five seconds of grace. Just put them on the dang overview list, or take them off the directional scanner and require the pilot to spot the actual ship that's coming to get them.
For my part, I'd like to see directional scans get a bit of an overhaul. I'll probably try to put together a proper presentation for them, but in the meantime, the probe-tracking function should be fixed or removed, not left in limbo like this. ======================

Yep. Exactly. If they want to make it hard, that's cool by me, but 'annoying' doesn't really mean the same thing as 'hard'.

User interface has to be crap because no one bothers to make working system.
Seriously we need actual system scanner not some excel worksheet which doesn't even work properly.
