Quote: Personally this whole sudden charade for collecting money all over the world whenever a natural disaster kinda sickens me simply because it shows what a bunch of hypocrites people around the world truly are. 24/7, 365 days a year there is so much **** going on all over the world where people suffer immensely. Then a natural disaster strikes and suddenly cries and pleas for help appear and the media all over simply explode. It is kinda amusing really: the pleas that play on people's conciousness is sickening enough in itself, but then there is the ones that actually do decide to pay - all in order to satisfy that little feeling of guilt. Donate a buck or so and all the troubles disappear. One month later, the very event is a mere memory if even that and most of the people that suffered from said event most likely still suffer.
It's the exact same thing with that Earth Hour crap where once a year people around the world are fooled into joining in and turn off all electrical appliances and lights and whatnot else for one hour. "Show that you care about the environment" and all that BS.
Do it right or don't do anything at all, but at least be honest about where you stand instead of being a hypocrite. There is no middle road. That's my take on all of this.
Only the Sith speak in absolutes.

Originally by: Tyranus vonCarstein Very few charities have 100% passthru rates for donations. Presumably CCP is going to pass 100% of the value of the plex to a charity, but confirmation and more details are always appreciated.
American charities, especially the Red Cross, give you the option of specifying what percentage of your donation you want to go to actual relief, and what goes to operative costs.

Thank you CCP for this opportunity to help.
For those of you that advocate doing absolutely nothing, as a firm believer of karma, may you never need saving.
I'm perfectly sure you will never have a time of need in your life.

Am I the only person who laughed when I heard Obi-Wan say that? Such paradoxical logic, he couldn't have been serious (unless he was admitting he was a sith?).
To CCP: I hope you include in the news how much you collect once this drive is over with. It'd definitely be interesting to see.

Originally by: CCP Navigator I will ask someone higher up to confirm your queries come Monday, but CCP are not going to profit from this. The CCP community will profit from their generous donations and the fact that they are helping people in desperate need.
Was there any update on this?
As the others, I'm just wondering what exactly "100% of the proceeds" refers to.

I am donating 10 plexes as of right now.
Come on all, all those people in the trade bazaars, in the character bazaars, in modules and munitions and in the ship channels. So many of us are swimming in isk. Who has ever parked outside jita 4-4 and seen dozens of freighters in the space of a minute enter and leave the station. Billions of isk trade are carried out every day around eve.
Isk that is ultimately just an IN GAME item, for a game about internet spaceships. Now we can finally use that isk for something amazing. Helping the people of Haiti. For all those rich folks, who know how easy it is to make a billion. Please spare $50, just a billion isk of game money to help real people =). There are eve players right now who dont even have enough money in game to donate a whole plex, but they're still doing half their ingame wealth to the Red Cross. I find that humbling.
So who wants to beats 10 plex? its a low figure, come now, can i get a 11?

Hey Chribba, I dont have a ton of isk in my wallet, but if I contracted you some Veldspar, could it go towards a plex for Haiti?
I suppose, I could refine it and sell it, but giving eves biggest Veldspar junkie, Veldspar would be cooler. :P

I'm a _very_ casual Eve player, but after 4 years flying around I processed the old junk lying I had lying around in a half dozen dusty station containers into space goo, sold a bunch of rarely used faction mods and My CNR (sniff...bye old girl, you've been good to me), cashed out a bunch of LP, and emptied out my bank account.

Edited by: Kytanos Termek on 04/02/2010 23:15:33 You have a toy, It's something you like to play with. You play with it almost everyday for hours, it's quite entertaining. You have other toys, but this toy is the best.
A man sit's on the street, now homeless from a great disaster, his wife dead in a ruined house. Trying to take care of his crying child. if you take a part out of this toy that you can reforge in a couple of days or weeks. You can feed him and provide water for him and his child for several days at-least, Perhaps even abit of medical care. but the toy will be less fun without this part until you reforge it.
What do you do?
Im sure we have all answered this question in one form or another, In one of those online how evil or good are you surveys you do for kicks. Maybe a personality or let us choose your class for you quiz in a video-game. Im sure most of us have answered yes, Giving ourselves a small sense of satisfaction that were are "the good guys". Unless of course you answered no for craps a giggles. we all do that out of whimsy some times.
Now it's being asked in real life, Once again. What do you do?

I am afraid you forgot the continuation of the story - you know, the part which people simply love to ignore, cause they think that they have played their role already?
The man gets his toy and it does indeed help him and his child survive the next few weeks as he is able to get some food and medication for it. But then the resources that the toy gave runs out and the man and his child are once more without any aid and help. By this time, there are no more kind strangers that can hand out any more toys because the misery that struck the man and child are already forgotten. The child dies. Eventually so does the man.
Meanwhile you move on with your life, probably have forgotten about the toy that you gave to that man, but even if that memory was to return it would only feel you with a warm and fuzzy feeling, because you know you did your part and if you come across another suffering soul elsewhere, you will give a part that toy to them as well.
Welcome to reality and the true nature of man's "kindness".

Edmund Burke once said, ôAll that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.ö
World War 2 should not have been our problem then if it were true. The US should have left the UK to rot and have europe ****d by either mad ****s or mad russians. I'm sure they would have left us alone.
Again, may you never need saving.

For those donating ISK, Please make sure you start your "reason" with "PLEX", I will of course do my best to spot out those donations as well, but it needs to start with "PLEX" in order to register automaticly!
