I would find it very useful to have a ship that does what a freighter does, but smaller, faster (i.e. more inertia), less skill requirements, cheaper, and still have a huge cargo hold to transport (fitted ships).
Currently, freighters can over 900k m3 of cargo hold space. Something ideal would be maybe 300-500k m3 sized cargo hold. Any thoughts?

But why this propoas is bringed up manytimes, and OP never thoght about orca ?
Mayby his know about orca, but dont find it ideal :).

jump freighter its alot faster in align time and overall AFK travels
it just dont met the cost issue :D

Actually I didn't know that the Orca had a ship maintenance bay. But it's an industrial ship and I don't want to spend 40 days to train for the Orca and go through all those industrial skills. Forget it. I want a cheaper, smaller, faster freighter.  I want a hauling ship not a mining barge.
Make the current freighters require (race) Freighter LVL3 and the new mini-freighters (race) Freighter LVL1.

You don't always get what you want.
The Orca is there, it's cheaper, and it has the ability to transported fitted ships. Use it.

orca is NOT a mining barge it cannot fit strip miners .... it is a command ship for industrials
why orca is good for a cheaper freighter
1. has high slots (can fit a t2 improved cloak)
2. can sheild tank reasonably well
3. has 75m3 drone bay (5x warrior II + 5x Hammerhead II)
4. has a ship hangar bay (can carry rigged cruisers or frigs)
5. can carry upto 185,000m3 ore/ice OR upto 135,000m3 cargo (50000m3 ore bay prevents normal cargo)
6. has 2 low slots for warp core stabs/inerthia stabs
7. can fit 3x large rigs
