Ok, I downloaded and applied the patch, and then started EVE. Took about 10 minutes to log in, but that didn't bother me too much. Once logged in, I started flying around to see the new scenery. Beautiful. Then, all of a sudden, EVE crashed. When I started it again and logged back on, all 3 of my character slots were EMPTY!! Where did my character go??

Actually - close the clinent, log back on and wait a bit. It'll reapear shortly.

nowhere, you just have lagged out. Don't panic and just restart the client.

Wish I asked here before I decided to delete my entire eve-folder out of fear from Trojans. Feeling kinda ill unill I can see my char again.

Nothing wrong with a healthy dose of paranoia it protects you 
Having just watched the 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy' teaser trailer I started thinking that CCP should have put a DONT PANIC sign in large friendly letters on the Exodus client (and maybe name it Exodust people always feel more secure when Dust is around).
