Yeah I kinda figured with the fact that they have no trial program, it had to by crappy. If you can't trust a trial program to hold people in, then it can't be a good game, or at least is likely not to be good. Especially with the price: 50 bucks just to buy the game, then 14.99 to pay per month afterwards. ____________________________________________ When going to a party with wine, women, and song. Originally by: Mara Rinn WoW clone? but it's in space? and it's a different game engine? So it's like, not really like WoW at all except for the part where you play a character and go out into the world to kill stuff?
The "friendly" PVE themepark nature of it, the giant damage notifications floating off characters/ships? lol, did you see the part where he dies to the boss npc and his ship magically re-spawns to do it over again? hahaha.

STO cannot compete with Eve sorry. The first reason for me is: That's no space. CCP send an Embassador to Cryptic which explains them how Space has too look and feel like :D. That small "rooms" called Starmap where you fly does not feel like Space. The small Systems which you can cross in a few minutes on full impulse does not feel like Space. This immersion of the Game is just an Epic Fail. regards --------------------------------------- Sometimes it pays to stay in bed in Monday, rather than spending the rest of the week debugging Monday's code. ~Dan Salomon |

Edited by: Joe Skellington on 03/02/2010 03:54:00 STO player ships respawn after they are blown up, I think. You can't get more Carebear than that.

I don't really think that the two games are meant to compete with each other.
EVE is a sandbox game distilled down to its purest form. Lying, cheating, stealing -- scams of all shapes, kinds, and colors -- are not only permitted but actively encouraged. Schemes that are considered by the EVE community to be brilliant plots of social engineering and patience that net billions of ISK and fell major Alliances would get you OUTRIGHT BANNED in most MMOs.
STO is a fully-instanced MMO that is ENTIRELY mission-oriented. You can't go into a system for no reason at all other than explore and expect to find content. Randomly entering a system will automatically generate a random mission for you, usually placing you into the party of a group with a mission already in progress. There is no "jumping through a wormhole just to see what's on the other side". The gameplay is meant to feel "safe" and the content can easily be digested in one-hour doses.
Oh, you don't have to read forums and Wikis for hours to figure out how to play the game well enough to not get spaced 10 times an hour. That's neither a pro nor a con in my book, because I like complex games.
I have subs to both, and probably will for a while. I imagine myself as running a few missions in both games several times a week.
