When investigating methods in which I can earn money it was suggested that I could "ninja rat" in 0.0 with my stealth bomber. I assume this means pop in, shoot a volley or two of torpedoes from max range and warp out before the tackle frigs get me - is this correct?
Should I fit my ship with anything specific to make this work? Anything I need to know?
My Hound is currently fit with 3x Siege launchers, a bomb launcher and cloak, two target painters, an MWD, and I believe 2 or 3 Ballistic control systems (I think 3 was only when the Bomb launcher was unfit).. the third low may have been a nanofiber - I'm not sure.
Four months ago it was a pretty standard fit for a Hound, but it's been a while plus a patch so I want to make sure I'm prepared before I go out there. ----------- EvE Category of my Personal Blog

What an awesome way to spend 30 minutes doing something you can do in 5 with a battleship.

Good luck running a camp in a BS.
To the OP, that looks like a fairly standard Hound fit from what I've seen (I've been looking into SBs lately since I recently got into my own Nemesis). I've gone out and killed a few 500k BS rats in lowsec to get my feet wet and have found it extremely effective at taking down BSs (just orbit them at 500m and keep firing away) but frigs and cruisers can be a real pain. I think a frig/AF+SB combo would be well suited to 0.0 ratting.

Change your fit around to have a medium shield extender on there. On the off chance that you lose your transversal, you wont have much warning before your ship explodes without the medium shield extender. Always watch out for warp scramming & webbing frigs.
Good luck.

1-2 volley's and warping out is not an efficient way to make any remote amount of isk ratting in a bomber.
I only have experience with serpentis and guristas rats. The manticore and nemesis work best hitting the rat's weak racial resists (kinetic thermal). In your fit you want to maximize your dmg output while remaining cap stable (use AB not MWD). You have the right idea with as many BCU's as possible. Ditch the bomb launcher in favor of more CPU, fit a salvager instead (turn it off to save CPU, only use it on faction or officer spawns). I've seen people use MWD fits with cap boosters, but then you become reliant on boosters to keep you going (a deadspace MWD can help prolong cap life).
Your goal should be to first choose an appropriate belt spawn. Avoid cruiser and elite cruiser spawns, as they'll do enough heavy missile dmg to ruin your day. Your ideal spawn is many BS's with just a couple destroyer or frigs tagging along. Pop the little guys first, if your confident they won't be able to get close while you're still able to keep either a good speed or radial speed on the BS's, then feel free to decloak and pwn the small stuff fast. IF you're not confident you won't survive, fire a volley then cloak. Rinse and repeat till they're dead.
For missile rat BS, just keep your speed high and your sig radius low. For turreted BS rats keep your radial speed as high as possible, or keep a distance (caution, some enemy BS's have optimals at 50km). Tracking disruptors can also be used to great effect (but your cap will be effected). BC's and BS's will die fast to your torps. I'd avoid getting close to serpentis BC's, as they have blasters and will melt you if you mess up close range. Pro tip: fit an MSE if possible, as it'll save you if you mess up.
Hope this helps, if i left anything out, yell.

You can also try cloak tanking. Position yourself about 20-30km away, uncloak, fire two volleys, cloak. Wait for about 15-20 seconds and repeat. Against your racial rat (Angels for hound) it should take about 5-6 volleys.
A little more finesse is needed than just going in blazing, but you don't have to worry about the frigs/cruisers.
Note: You can cloak right after your second volley fires, but you need to be that close so your torps hit before the launchers finish their cycle.

Why not just use a Recon or T3? You can run camps just as well, plus either would provide varying degrees of added flexibility.

I was pretty succesfull ratting with my manticore and sig tanking. For that don't use an extender or MWD. Use an AB a nano and a BCU. Frigs and cruisers will mess you up so kill them first, then you can just orbit at range and smack up the BS rats.
Ninja ratting usually means going out and ratting in space that isn't yours so you have to dodge reds, pirates, etc.

Edited by: Denuo Secus on 03/02/2010 21:12:27 I used a Purifier for ratting Sanshas in friendly zero sec. Was no problem at all. I even didn't use T2 torps because of lacking skill. With Javelin torps you can orbit the rats at higher range which is better. My biggest problem was landing between the roids: I couldn't maintain my orbit at high velocity. Also with a big orbit you have a bit distance from warp in point.
I tanked with a small t2 shield booster. Active shield tank keeps your sig small and is quite cap efficient. It's not cap stable, but that's not necessary. I pulsed the booster. A small complex booster (c-type: around 50mio?) is perfect imo. TP is a nice addon.
Bomber is nice for ninja ratting because of avoiding/breaking thru camps. But the bombers ammo consumption could be a problem. It's cargo isn't that huge and torps are quite big...if you cannot dock and buy new ammo on site you need to travel a lot and often:
I'm not completely sure but I guess to remember I needed around 12 volleys per rat -> one volley = 3 torps -> 36 torps per rat. The Purifier has 260m^3 cargo -> one torp needs 0.1 m^3 -> 2600 torps total. So you can finish around 70 rats with one filled cargo hold of torps. Consider 2 rats per belt, that are ~35 belts. Not that much imo.
