Ive been pondering over what type ship to train for for a while now, imagining all the different scenarios between recons/hacs/cs's etc and always ending up dissapointed due to not having found the awesomest ship. Recently tho i took another look at black ops BS (which i had previously disregarded as gimpy during noobier times) and found myself really liking them. They got a lot of dps while having room for a cloak+neut or 2, they can fit enough tank to outclass t1 BS's and be fast enough to catch t2 cruiser hulls, all at the same time! Thing is tho ive never seen any1 flying one for roaming/station fights or any other type of common pvp scenarios so gotta be something off with them right? what u guys think?

Well, I actually have a redeemer and use it regularly, but not for pvp. Not directly anyhow. The reason is it does less dps than my armageddon and has less tank. The only thing it really has going for it is an extra midslot and a cloak. Both are great, but against another BS, even a lowly armageddon it's hopelessly outclassed. That's the problem. If it had T2 resists and a bit more raw armor HP it would be great, but it doesn't.
That said it's got a couple tricks, the most obvious is a cloaked gate camp. The redeemer maybe inferior to every t1 BS in game but it will still rip apart a BC or industrial. And a scout for a such a ship won't see jack as you should be cloaked. Other option I have tried is locating missioning/ratting BC's and under with a cov ops frig, covert cynoing in the redeemer and then warping straight to them. Obviously only works if your cov ops frig pilot looks nice and harmless, should really get my alt 5.0 sec status for that . -----------------------------------------------------

I think you can use it for PvP. But this damned thing is so expensive

The ISK/uberness ratio seems to be a bit too high :-)

The Sin is probably ok, damagewise. But it seems Blackops are not meant to be for solo pvp, but doing what their role bonus is for.

Best thing you can do with a blackops is get your friends along in bombers and force recons. Have a cloaky scout with a covert cyno looking for likely targets, light the cyno when you find one and bridge the gang right on top of them.
It's kinda what the blackops is really for, and those sort of ops are devastating if done right ---------- Sig Page 1 Snipah YOU CANT MINE SO YOU KILL |

Not really. My alt has invented and built several Panthers, and it cost me about 570 mil per hull last run. The CJP is another 40 mil, and you don't have to faction fit a BO, so 50 mil or so for the fittings and rigs, and overall, it is not as expensive as a typical T3 cruiser loadout. Certainly much cheaper than a faction BS.
If you run with several other BO ships, you are no more likely to be called primary than anyone else.

I've heard more than one person refer to using Black Ops in combat as the definition of insanity. They have less tank and DPS than their T1 hulls, and cost 10X more in addition to being un-insurable.
Black ops truly shine in the role for which they were designed, providing extra mobility to Recon/Cov-ops gangs. The potential for hot-dropping a Blackops/Recon/SB fleet onto a few ratters is something that I would enjoy immensely! Additionally, one of those gang members could drop a real cyno field and viola, capital support.
