Like Raven on certain mission is not enough to have T2 fitted, you have to warp out a few times on select missions. On faction fit with Pithi booster or two, missions become a breeze, even more with CNR.
Perhaps you can apply faction modules to the same principle in Maelstrom for a higher degree of tank/damage? Whether you think you can or can`t, you are absolutely right. |

I use the Maelstrom against Angels (only have to warp out of AE bonus room) and the Typhoon against Sansha/Blood.

An AC Maelstrom with good shield, gunnery and drones skills, and cap boosted if you find it hard to tank sometimes ?

Would help if you gave us a fit, and what missions you're struggling with ( and how you're doing them ).
That Mael fit just up a couple of posts is the one, cept I wouldn't fit a cap rig with a cap booster. 4 gyros and more ambits for me, probably.

Better to fit two invulns IIs, an Explosion Dampening Field and a Booster amp. Angel missions feature more than just Kinetic and Explosive, and an amp is always better than a third invuln because of the stacking penalty.

sleipner is my prefered L4 ship. I'm told the vargur makes it seem slow though.
if you want to stick to T1 ships, mael is the best of the matar mission ships, but is not the fastest mission runner there is umong T1 BSes. real secret is to kind of gimp your tank to get more DPS out of it. just tank enough to stay alive long enough to clear the mission and concentrate on DPS.

Problem with that is sometimes you agro sometimes you don't. I did the same mission twice in a row and changed nothing, once I agro'd the whole room just by warping in, and once I did not draw agro at all by warping in. I trust the mission reports on eve-survival, the mission where that happened was reported as such.
Although I dont have great DPS yet, so TBH maybe I could clear the whole room with a smaller tank and excellent DPS. Typhoon might be ur best bet for mission runner as it is an incredibly versatile ship and capable of a lot of DPS. -------------------------------------------------- I'm so Old I can remember when QQ was TT

The best option for a Minmatar L4 noob is to buy two battlships - an armor tanker and a shield tanker (I used a Tempest and a Mael).
Then you can take the one whose tank gives the best native resists for the specific mission you're doing, so Mael v.s. Angels/Guristas, Tempest v.s. Bloodraiders/Serpentis for example. This lets you save slots by using omnitank mods, leaving room for any damage/tracking mods you want to use.

If you can sustain an XL booster you setup is bad

As I pilot a T2 Raven, I claim two things. 1) This is true. 2) This is nonsense. A T2 Fitted Raven can do any mission without warping out so long as you have near perfect aggro management, near perfect tanking skills, near perfect missile skills, a solid fit, and the nerve to stay in a pocket with your shields holding at just over 5%.
I ran Mordus Headhunters yesterday like that. It's very strange to find yourself relieved to see 10% shields. Of course, some make the claim my Raven has a lousy tank. The nerve of them!
But I digress. Under normal circumstances I'd promptly recommend the Typhoon. I had one, loved it, used it for nearly a year. However, I fire missiles. The Typhoon had missiles fitted. Artillery and Autocannons might be a different story. My vote still goes for the Typhoon. It can be armor tanked, shield tanked, passive tanked, and buffer tanked (PVP anyway), leaving lots of room to fit damage as you see fit. It also has the 5% bonus to ROF on turrets and missiles.

For T1, the Maelstrom has been the best for me to run L4 missions. Some of missions require taking time and being careful, but I seem to get better mileage out of that than from a Typhoon or Tempest. All T2/Named fittings, no faction gear.
My preferred ship, however, is the Vargur (AC fitted). Its much faster and the only mission that it can't seem to handle is "Smash the supplier" (Amarr). For that, I need the arty range that a Maelstrom provides, or else I'm warping out repeatedly in the Vargur. Fortunately, the shield tanking works pretty much the same on both ships, so switching ships isn't much of a process shock.
