I have trouble traveling through lo-sec without getting podded.
So how can I mine there.
Any advice?

Don't mine in lowsec belts. There's nothing there that gives noticeably more ISK than highsec belts. If you really have to mine in lowsec, mine in exploration pockets. Better still, either move back to highsec or move on to 0.0

It's possible.
1. Get a really big blob with good coverage in all timezones 2. Get all the locals blue 3. ??? 4. Profit!
Although mining is probably the worst pick for #3. And in summary, bigger blobs are the answer. Now what was the question? |

get blue with the locals. often easier said then done, and still have to watch out for random neutrals/reds that want to get you.

Edited by: Capt Tashtastic on 06/02/2010 08:48:05 You need a cloaked hauler and your hulk and a dead end system. Move through the pirate blockades in your hauler with your hulk and modules repackaged in the hold, and find a quiet spot with a station where you can unload your hulk and fit it. Head off to the belts and mine whilst keeping an eye on local. As soon as anyone enters run for the station and stay there til the person leaves (dont use cans otherwise they will be bookmarked and the dude will jump back into system and warp straight for where your cans were). As you mine a good amount, haul it to empire in your hauler and rinse and repeat til you have had enough...then repackage your hulk into your hauler and head off to empire again.

AF - This is the only advice you need to take heed of. Anything else is irrelevant.

Yes low sec ores are broken. Just wait 3 or 4 years before CCP fix them. By then you should have enough expirience to deal with anything.

Don't listen to the people saying lowsec mining isn't profitable! You need to stay clear of the big pirate regions. Find a nice caldari region like Black Rise. Haul in the hulk to a station like above poster said and learn how to scan. Don't be one of those that dock up at any sign of ppl in local (time is money, right?). Most people are usually just travelling through.
And if you do get caught by a pirate (usually bad luck), ask to pay ransom. You'll earn in back in no time and it's a lot more exciting than mining in highsec.

dont go mine in lowsec. its just stupid to give pirates kills and its not even much more profitable than hisec mining.

First you should not get podded in Low Sec. The second you realize that your ship is going ot blow up start spamming warp to an object in space (station/gate) and when your pod shows up it should instantly warp.
The following is what I have been doing and I have not lost a Osprey while minning yet.
- Find a dead end system.
- Put NRDS in your bio which should help with the next step
- Get friendly with the locals
- Find the belt that is the furthest from the gate, and stations if possible.
- Stay aligned to station.
- Get an Osprey
- I also have a bookmark that is about 100k from my belt and I jet my ore there during the hours that the region is most active.
Otherwise, I just jet the ore like normal based off the belief that low sec pirates will not mess with a can in the belt because it just is not worth their time and they are not can flippers since that is really a high sec technique to get easy kills. (I would not use this technique till you have fairly good relationships with some of the locals)
- I have a hauler fit for fast align and not massive cargo space. Since the Osprey is not the fastest miner it takes a while to get enough ore to fill up my fast aligning hauler. Fit for hauler is 3x inertia stabilizers and 2x Tech II cargo hold expanders.

Scordite is the most profitable ore before you hit 0.0, so yeah you should listen to it. -------------------------------------------------- I'm so Old I can remember when QQ was TT

Mine in exploration sites instead of belts. This will at least make them have to scan probe you out before ganking you.
While mining open up your ship scanner, take off "use overview settings" and keep running it repeatedly especially with unknown characters in local. What you're looking for on scan is Combat Scanner Probe or Sisters Combat Scanner Probe. These get used to scan for ships. If you are mining in an exploration site they might also use Core Scanner Probes to find the site you're in and not to spook you with Combat Probes. In summary, any probes on 360 scan are trouble.
Train up Evasive Maneuvering skill. Fit your mining ship with modules and rigs that improve agility - intertia stabilizers & low friction nozzle joints. You can also fit a few warp core stabilizers in low slots since initial tackler will probably first just put 1 or 2 points on you. If you have a few stabs you can simply warp off from under those points. Passive pre-alignment is a myth so it does not matter which way your ship model is facing while you're mining. The time it takes you to warp off is simply the time it takes your ship to accelerate to 75% of its subwarp speed and it doesn't matter which way the ship model is facing when acceleration starts.
Rename your ships with confusing names like cyno-Osprey if you are mining in Osprey or POS fuel hauler if you are mining in a hauler. You can mine in belts that are surrounding a planet that has POSes anchored at one or several of its moons. This might confuse the initial scout into thinking that you are ship sitting inside the forcefield of a control tower anchored at a moon rather than that you're sitting in belt mining with it.
Find lowsec systems that are isolated pockets. There are some lowsec stretches that are notorious for their pirate activity mainly because they lead into a 0.0 pipe or provide shorter rounte between two different regions. So people haul their stuff through these systems and this obviously attracts pirate and gate camps. You want to keep away from such lowsec and find yourself some nice quiet systems.
Observe the locals. See what they are doing. Open up info of their character and under notes tab scribble in some notes about what you observed the character doing. This will help you remember who are the bad guys and the opportunists in the area and who is harmless or even friendly to you. Eventually you can work on those standings.
Expect to lose ships so don't fly anything you can't afford to replace at least 3x.
When your ship is about to blow up select an object on overview like a belt or planet and under Selected Object window keep spamming the warp button like on picture here: link. Makes you almost impossible to pod. Get a jump clone, put in cheap implants for playing in lowsec, keep clone with expensive implants in highsec space.

No, its usually a minmatar FW drake that does it, also the titan doesnt jump in with them
Anyway, we would welcome a titan jumping into amamake.

Edited by: Hsan Evets on 07/02/2010 18:57:22 Find a low-sec system that is not well traveled. Try getting your corp blue to all the normal people / corps around there (this usually takes a week or two of hanging around the area being friendly). Once this is accomplished, it should be possible to solo mine. However, don't ever go AFK, watch local and don't be a tough guy.
BTW, I used to solo mine ice in low-sec under these conditions. So it is possible, just not a great idea. Also, the only real benefit to mining in lowsec is that asteroids are plentiful and you don't have much competition. If that's not an issue in your current high-sec mining, then I wouldn't bother going to low-sec.
EDIT: Also, move as far away from the warp in spot in asteroid belts as possible.
