Edited by: Culmen on 08/02/2010 17:24:29 yes but it cost real life money. You basically create a new character of the same race/bloodline/gender. got to Account Management -> Accoutn Services -> Portrait Swap. And pay $10 and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Culmen,
thank you for this fast reply.
Changing your look here is less expensive than in real life.
Thanks,

Might be worth the investment, looking at your portrait.
I spent some time getting just the right nuance to my character, handsomeness combined with intelligence tinged with experience and fashionable accoutrements. Hard to keep the ladies off me when I'm docked, tho.....

Everyone one gets a option to remake their avatar when Incarna comes out. So if you can wait 10 months+ it will cost you nothing.

The current process is the result of poor programming on CCP's part.
Initially, you were supposed to be able to go back during the character creation process and redo your character - but it didn't work. I wrote a bug report on that and they fixed it.
Then - the next update came out - and the part of the game where you could go back and change it - was gone.
So - you go through all this work on your portrait, adjusting the nuances of the eyebrows and such - then - you see how the thing actually looks when it's been shrunken down to it's in game size - and it looks a LOT different. I've had temp characters that looked kind of cute in portrait creation look like old hags in game. Fortunately for me I was gonna delete that character anyway.
In any case ... while there are a number of things CCP has done well - this is not one of them. Essentially, they are all wrapped up in their Walking In Stations/Ambulation ... and don't care enough about what is in fact one of the more important parts of character creation. They made it so that there wasn't any real value to the character creation process but the characters looks - and then they screwed that up. Oh ... but they'll fix your problem - which their crappy code created - for another $10.
A few things not mentioned yet are:
1) You have to have a free character spot - or - you have to create another account, do all your character creation on it and then PAY to have that character swapped with a character on the account you want to change the looks of a character on. Then, once you've swapped portraits with the character you moved to your main account - then you can PAY to swap back the character you swapped out to swap in the one with the new portrait. Then you can delete the character with the unwanted look and possibly the account you created to create the new look character on.
2) When you create the new character whose look you are going to swap to the character you wish to fix - what happens if, when you get to see how THAT character looks in game - they look like hell too? Well then you can delete them - which has a built in 10 hour cooling down period to allow you to change your mind.
All in all - an incredibly inferior character creation process to the one we had after they fixed that bug I reported. I'm just glad I got to use it a few times before they destroyed it.
It was really neat. I created the character, left the portrait part - saw how the character would look in game - went back and tweaked it - saw what effects that had on the in game portrait and then went back and forth changing it some more until I was satisfied with what I had. THAT is what it was supposed to be all along - but which didn't work because it was bugged. Then right after they fixed it - they destroy the whole thing.
*sigh*
I just hope when they come up with the new character looks for the full body, ambulatory characters - that it is worth the way they thoroughly fouled up the character creation process for the game we are playing now - because they did thoroughly foul it up.
Some people might look at this process and say that it was all an excuse so they could charge us more money to fix the mess they created - but I don't believe that. Any time you have to make a judgment on conspiracy vs. incompetence - go with incompetence every time ...

Anyone else spontaneously thought this was about ship customization and that the OP failed hard by getting to a titan and not knowing you can't change ship appearances?
