Hi everyone,My character is a minmatar trader/miner and i want to use only Minmatar ships in his development.I like to rp this way. I'm getting close to getting my first cruiser and i want a stabber.I have a shuttle, rifter and a horder all ready. And i want to use projectile weapons because of the bonuses i can get. Is there anything wrong in playing this way?I like the Minmatar race because of the freed slave history.I created a nice bio for my guy also. My roomate who is a different class and a hardcore combat guy is telling me i should use other class stuff because Minmatar stuff is'nt that good. He keeps going on about the thorax because of the drone space and other ships. But i could care less about them.He says i'll be a gimp if i don't get a thorax. He's in a earth & beyond corp.and into going into .0 space but the lowest space i'm going in will be .5 I don't care about pvp or hunting high lvl rats.So is my way of playing a waste of time in this game or not?If so should i quit this game.I want to be able to play this way because i like to rp.

You plan sounds fine to me, and will allow you to spend your time learning other skills instead of being able to fly every ship in the game. If you start to get bored then you can always look at a way of getting access to other races ships through roleplay.... amarr ships would be the logical choice due to them being the enslavers.
I'd say play the game how you want, there is enough scope and rp about to stay true to the minmitar clans and maybe see if there are any corps about who only use minmitar kit that you can join.

well it's true that minmatar gun's aren't good at the moment, the dev's/gm's haven't even relpyed to the 100's of post's about them. but anyway, the problem with projectiles is that they suck at tracking, now tracking is a very important part of combat, as it increase's your chances of hitting the target, and also hitting it more harder(rare wreaking shots) now the small and meduim guns aren't that affected by tracking as small and meduim guns all have good tracking, it's only when you start thinking large ranged shooting that minmatars fall down from grace(and everyone steps on you) if your going to be doing agent kill missions, or combat with other frigates/cruiser, the best thing to keep in mind with minmatar ship's is that they are faster than the rest! also, the thing about projectiles is that u can do any damage type. so best things for minmatar ship's are short range setup's with guns that have fast tracking, and the stabber is a good ship(it's the fastest cruiser tech1 in the whole game) but that weighed againest the extra 2 low slot's u get from the rupture, makes the rupture a better ship(as it can last longer) IMHO |

In Eve, things get "balanced" periodically, which maens that what's good today, might not be so good tomorrow. I started seriously training Amarr ships and lasers a long time ago, when they were arguably the weakest in the game, but now things have changed a little, and they're the flavour of the month.
This coupled with the fact that the game is increasingly tending towards specialisation, means that there's nothing wrong with sticking to one type of ship and weapon class. In a few months time, projectiles will probably the weapon that everyone uses . Even today, when flying Minmatar ships, an experienced pilot / projectile user, will probably outdamage an inexperienced laser user.
Having said all of that though, you should look at training up your missile skills too, as a lot of Minmatar ships can fit launchers.

What you are doing sounds like a good plan to me, not a waste of time at all. I'm gallente myself yet i fly Minmatar and Caldari ships. Also didn't go for the 'bigger is better' route by getting into a battleship as soon as possible. Had my reasons, mainly didn't look like that much fun at the time =) I like to have fun, maybe that sometimes means i'm doing things that would earn me less ISK/Hour than possible. I love my Rifter and i often fly it just to have the thrill of a very fast close combat ship. Yet it does not earn me very much ISK/Hour, frankly i don't care. I'm having fun playing the game in my own pace and on my own terms.

I don't think the way you are playing is a waste of time. The way I look at it, if you are enjoying yourself, then it isn't a waste. I play safe as well, and I still have a blast playing for hours. Keep playing as minmatar, as long as you know their weaknesses, then theres no worries. Rock on, and peace out :)

Get a Probe. It's a much better mining ship and is very useful if you want to run agent missions. Then save up for your Scythe and maybe a Stabber. I love mine.

Also maybe find a Minmatar RP corp. It sounds like you'd have fun in one, and I'm sure some of them need miners.

Jarfaru: Sounds like you're taking a great approach to the game. I've done Lvl 2 kill missions in my trusty Probe(lord, I love that little boat), with 150mm Galliums and drones. For some of the harder missions had to move up to a Rifter with 2 x 150mm Galliums, rocket launcher and small missle launcher with Sabretooth emp missles to take down sheilds before closing for the infight(required crash course in missles, but that's a piece of cake if you've got your learning skills pumped up). On both ships use cap batteries, mainly because they increase the cap recarge rate, and Power Diagnostic I. This allows your sheilds to take a beating for about a minute and a half, so with a pre-programmed auto pilot set and an eye on your armor(I warp out at 2/3 armor, when thinking rationally), you can survive most situations.
So fight the good fight, my Minmatar Brother!

Wait, I don't get it. You're asking us if we think you should abandon the way you like to play just because your friend tells you so? Always go by heart! This is a game mean't to be enjoyed, so do it your way. However, I'd say he is on the right track, +0.5 space is just an awful waste of time. Sure, it is light entertainment, but you'll see one day...
