Edited by: Verloc Nostromo on 13/02/2010 04:49:16 I think that this is a perfectly sound idea......
Why dont we make it subject to the same things that cloak whiners want and make the macro randomly turn off after a while? Or even have it do heat damage to the barge using it? That would "balance" it right?

Less chance of "player boredom burnout."
If it's boring, you're doing it wrong.

More time for CCP to chase people actually doing "bad things": exploits and other more destructive bots.
More Destructive bots? There you go then, by saying more destructive, you're admitting you think mining macros are destructive to the game.

Doesnt change much about the current mineral market.
Loading up a dozen or so macros to farm asteroids, so they have massive amounts of minerals they can sell for cheap prices, therefore driving the price down for others in order to compete with an insanely low selling price, so they can get their HARD EARNED minerals sold.
Begone Macro sympathiser!

Edited by: MHayes on 13/02/2010 11:05:33 I think it isn't that bad, not game breaking, it is a way for new players to make isk, and it is decent money of you can't run level 4 missions but can fly a hulk.
But I do think mining needs changing overall.
Th best thing about EVE is PVP, th PVE is a bit lacking, they need to make PVE more like PVP and perhaps the same for mining.
Just in general more random, random crazy drops but at the same time random big rats with crazy setups like real pvp.
Add tougher belts in high sec (scanable perhaps) pirates in them with no bounty but lots of ore. not as profitable as 0.0 ore but better than your average belt and you need help to tank it but no money from bounty so they don't replace L4s.
This would hopefully make macroing harder and require teamwork but not make 0.0 and WH space pointless because empire is so profitable.

Its ok as long as macro miners have special "macro"-ships (price 30-100m) which are suicide-gankable by a "Ibis-Gang".

Why not just use a real macro? Apparently CCP can't even figure out that someone who mines ice 23/7 might possibly not be someone with an extreme case of insomnia.
If they can't catch those guys, then simply using a high end macro for 8 hours a day will be impossible to catch and will make you millions.
If you're like me, though, and don't want to throw five years of work away for getting caught cheating, then just stick with the lvl 4 mission ISK printer or 0.0 ratting. Both of which are at least not face meltingly boring and still extremely profitable.

If mining is so mind-numbingly boring, then why do it? If the ISK payout is so terrible, then why not ditch mining in favor of something more lucrative (and exciting) like ratting, missioning, pvping, etc.
Any player whining about ways to legitimize "macro" mining to make more ISK rather than using existing game mechanics to play EVE to have fun probably needs to go find a new game. Players that use bots (or want to use bots) in any MMO have only one person in mind - themselves. As has already been pointed out repeatedly in this thread, macro mining drives the price of ore into the ground and screws over all the hard-working, non-afk'ing miners out there.
I'm not a miner (nor will I ever be), but my hat's off to those with enough grit and determination to mine the "right" way and try to have fun doing it!

Either play the damn game or don't. Tough luck if you find it boring, not everyone does. If you don't like mining do something else as the majority of EVE do. This is a dumb idea, we may as well have CCP give a daily allowance of minerals straight into everyone's hanger. Deflation would run rampant (it's bad enough as it is now), the servers would be overloaded and RMT'ers would have a field day, they would swarm to this game.
Legalising something which is a problem is the lazy way out and despite what you say about drugs it fails miserably (in the UK it's been a complete disaster) So giving that example is wrong and in any event relates to real life. This is a game which completely different considerations. Mining should be made more interesting, perhaps with a bonus to materials if there is more player interaction.
Its always better to fix a game mechanic by changing it to be more interesting or by removing it, anything else is just lazy. Maybe we should ban mining altogether as these macros are screwing us all over. It would be even worse if they were made legal.

The always returning shouts for making things easier.
Nowadays we get more and more people who are used to so darn much luxury that the whole idea behind something like a mining operation and at the same time chat session is beyond their comprehension.
People want to log in and then go textmessage their friends by cellphone how their day was and in the meantime the game plays itself. That this whole concept is unfullfilling in total they lack to see. The goalsetting of a lot of people is so narrowminded and shortsighted that they can't grasp a simple notion as this being a MMO and not a FPS.
Yet there will always be people who keep shouting out the occassional cry for legitimised macro's. Too lazy or too undisciplined to play the game thet look for ways to increase theri income, yet why they are increasing their income becomes more and more a vague idea somewhere in a dark grotto.
Simple fact of EVE is as follows.
You DON'T have to do what seems boring or mindnumbing. There are soo darn many things in this game to do. If you call yourself a miner then mine, not whine about macro's to make it less boring. If it's boring to you then you chose the wrong profession ingame.

I read the thread, and I have some questions.
Can ratting provide the same income that mining even arkonor can provide in any way?
Are macros destroying the game for miners, or are the mechanics of mining destroying the game for miners?
I have a friend who told me about downloading a macro mining application. I was appalled and slightly surprised by him telling me this. What I don't understand is why anybody would even bother using a macro just so they could automate the system of the game that should be otherwise enjoyable.
My qualms towards macro mining are against the fact that mining should be an enjoyable exercise. However, I wonder if people are mining to make money, or to enjoy Eve. It becomes complicated because I rat not to make money, but to relax and take edge off a stressful day or to just kick back and get away from the rigors of being a CEO.

Well, first off its a bad idea.
Secondly, If you were going to suggest sanctioned macros why wouldn't you just take the next step and ask for ore or mineral spawns on the market? If the harvester is automated 100% of the time why waste the server and client resources?
Bad thinking and bad idea.
Wrong forum, too. "Aghast the devil stood and felt how awful goodness is." |
