So I check my email today and it appeared that the CCP Research Team is taking a survey.
It's the kind of survey that asks a lot of non-game related questions, like how many girlfriends you had at one time....
OK just kidding. It's almost like the kind of survey that financial statistics companies will give, with questions about MMOs, DUST, and games thrown in.
Long long ago, I worked for a company that did such financial surveys where they would ask what kind of mortgage you had, where you did your banking, IRA or Annuity, etc. One thing that was remarkable was the computer program I had to maintain that would complete the survey if the subject didn't finish. The CCP survey is not very short. But I figure anyone here who is regularly equipped with a Wall of Text Launcher II can handle it.
Right?
But if you don't, it's possible for a computer program to determine what your answers would have been in case you finished it.
Whether or not that's the case for this survey, I don't know. But if you pass out drunk in the middle of it or get ganked and ragequit while taking it, a lot can be done with the information they get.
Now, with all of the complaining about this and that around here, show some anatomy and take that survey. I have dealt with a lot of companies in my lifetime, and the company behind this game is a little more receptive to the customers. Must be a viking thing, and good so long nobody gets an axe in the face.
Unfortunately, there was no question like "if DUST was on PC would you buy it?" But hey we can dream.
If you can't handle multiple choice questions, then let me know so I can look down on you with my sense of moral superiority. |

There should have been a another survey to decide what questions to have on the survey. -.-

Occam's Razor
Which is the more likely scenario:
CCP wasted money and resources issuing a survey they don't care about to gauge the reception they don't care about for their new expansion and find out what direction they don't care about that their player base they don't care about thinks they should take.

Surveys are a great tool to "improve" business decisions that you already are mentally committed to with some "objective" justifications. |

Unfortunately I no longer get the survey emails. Apparently they only send to first account, I've since moved this character off of that since you cannot rename them. :p
Anyway, the link was mentioned in another thread so I took it.
I may have come here from Myst Online, but that does not make me any less bloodthirsty than the average Eve player.
Just more subtle.

I just found that post and took the survey, since I don't seem to get those emails either.

The last survey CCP put out about this resulted in the NeX being released a few months later along with Incarna to the detriment of the game. I would advise my good New Edenians to ignore the survey and allow CCP to measure their performance by their subscription base and not some future feature "we all want".
Besides, I don't know about you, but when a game company is interested in your financials, I don't think they're planning features to enhance gameplay, rather, deflate your pocketbook. Just saying...... We want breast augmentations and sluttier clothing in the NeX! |

I got about 40% in and it reset back to the beginning, needless to say I didn't continue. |

It's best to keep a company that is providing a product you enjoy completely in the dark when it concerns out of game information about you. It's the same philosophy that same company utilizes when they plan things like P2W as seen in the leaked Greed is Good.

Watch what the players do, and not what they say
You do know that guy is still in charge and they did surveys then that were nearly exactly the same as the ones they have been doing. By the same provider, asking several of the same questions. For years now. They may spend money for the people who host it, but they certainly don't invest in time in the surveys, either in writing the questions or reading them.
Look up the Placebo Effect. |

Pretty much. This kind of thing 'works on multiple levels'. * Placebo, which has a wide range of effects all of which are just in the mind of the one taking it (the survey in this case). * Lightning rod: rage wasted there is less likely to be seen in a public place like the forum * Result fishing, which applies when those in charge, or middlemen, are corrupt enough to discard stuff they dont want to hear and only report praise and confirmation. (report/read that xxx like it, but hide/ignore that yyyyy dislike like it). Then trot out the butchered result to the "dissident masses" to "prove" that the devs were right all along. Aka "have conclusion, looking for backing'. * 'doing something' without doing something.
This far in with the 'new inv', and with years of EVE, I am not even comtemplating if they are honestly looking for real feedback or not. It reeks of desperately seeking sentiments that tell them that they are not wrong and that what they did was actually loved and great.
Could be induced from the shock of experiencing cognitive dissonance, when vocal vets turned up and gave the thumbs down - with solid arguments one might add. Just so very tiresome that their phases are taking so long. Seems they are still stuck in denial and have yet to move to acceptance... |
