I am running missions, & ratting, in losec. What tactics, or what mods, will help defend my mission ship from being tackled by an interceptor?
I am flying a Drake, "pvp fit" with HAMS & a t2 scrambler. This defends against most losec pvp threats.
Nevertheless, interceptors with their long range disruptors are a threat, to hold me for some blob.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Cost is (almost) no object :).

Generally said - if inty pilot is competent and has decent skills, he WILL hold ham drake long enough for blob to come /or even hml drake/. Flight of warrior2s is your only defence.

If you can't break his lock you won't escape.
Warrior IIs are no good if there's a gang incoming, any decent ceptor pilot can deal with 5 unbonused warriors for long enough to screw you.

This.
Why compromise the fit you are obviously happy with because it works in the missions you run, just because you don't know how to use low-sec properly or can't be bothered ? Everything you need is already at your fingertips. Play smarter, not harder

Phased Muon Sensor Disruptor, warp core stab, Medium Neut and Warrior II's.
Makes holding your Drake a lot more to think about for an inty pilot.

The only problem is, with a warp core stab you're going to take so long just to lock that inty his pals are going to rip your face off by the time you start shooting\ECM\siccing drones on him. So that helps only if he's not packing a two-pointer.
Best bet is, align to a warp out (should have done that already but I suppose you haven't since you got scrammed), lock inty, sic warrior II's on him, pray he gets out of range, spam warp button if he does.

Tengu and ECCM <<< These 2 will make it impossible to probe you out while running missions in lowsec.
Setup a insta undock from the stations with the agents and have fun.

Interesting problem, here follows some EFT warrioring.
Assuming crow (longest base targeting range inty) is the point with all 5 skills it can lock you up at 37.5km and have point on you within 24km assuming basic t2 disrupt.
A t2 or meta 4 sensor dampener with range script will reduce its targeting range to 21.75km. This on its own might just be enough to let you GTFO, depending on his orbit range of course. Two damps would put it beyond doubt but I don't know if this is acceptable use of valuable midslots.
If he's using a sensor booster which seems eminently possible in this situation you'd need 2 damps for this to work for sure. |

This. Most ceptor pilots are aware that sooner rather than later they will run into warrior II's so they fit their ship to survive these long enough for their gang to pick up tackle. They will also simply start shooting them down one by one leaving you no defenses.
ECM drones are chance based so you cannot rely on them to get you out of trouble 100% of time. Warp core stabilizer will give you locking range penalty and also make you lock mission frigates or any incoming pirate interceptors rather slowly. Damps and dampener drones (and yes there are sensor dampening drones) will work only if pilot has not set a wider orbit. However, most inty pilots will try to set wider orbits to minimize incoming damage from missiles. So you can do all of these things until they catch you with an Arazu packing three 50+km points instead of an interceptor but that's topic for another thread. So all in all, being aligned and scanning for probes are really best solutions to not getting caught in a missioning Drake.

Thanks for all the ideas.
Part of the question is, "are there tactics that might work, once you see the inty headed your way?"
The Drake flies too much like a brick to expect to warp away once the inty is in the grid. But, with my mods (warp disruptor, two faction webs), or others, are there flying tactics that might help?
Like: fly toward the inty?; fly away from the inty?; fly at right angles to the inty's path?
As you can see, I do not have enough flight experience to know the best tactics. Any ideas?
Thanks!

As many people have said, being aligned to a chosen celestial and spamming warp as soon as you pick up an inbound inty should suffice. If you wait until they show up on grid you still have a decent chance of spamming warp and getting out before he locks, depends on who's on their game / lag / etc.
Aside from that all you can do in your current fit is sic warriors, lob missles and see if you cant pull a fast one and start flying away from him while he passes you on orbit, he may not realize it until its too late but you need to be spamming warp and be aligned as soon as he crests hit point mark, and thats a long shot at what is probably a paltry 167ms.

As was said a couple times before, the best solution is to not fight at all. To accomplish this keep your directional scanner open and watch for combat scanner probes. Here's a guide to give you the basics just in case you're not familiar with the d-scanner. Linkage

I'm posting this as an interceptor pilot.
Warrior IIs aren't a real threat. ECM drones are WAY too slow to do anything to an inty. So yeah, make sure he never gets tackle on you to begin with. Watching the scanner is annoying, but watching the overview and being aligned is almost failproof. Even a decloaking recon won't get you because there's a 5 seconds delay before he can start locking after decloaking.
There's another thing that hasn't been mentioned yet... Precision missiles (T2 Hams). They do some damage to inties, and if you're lucky they will have to disengage before the blob arrives. It also makes it impossible to hold you forever.

Kinda cool to see all the replies directly to this guy's question, but IMO the best defense against an inty while in a drake on a mission is to do the mission in high sec in an NPC corp. That is the best defense, while also allowing you to fit all PvE mods. Complete missions faster. Earn ISK faster.
Low sec is for pvp, primarily. If you're going there, I would imagine it's to pvp. PvEing in low sec is...well it doesn't make sense (again exceptions are running Lv 5s - I heard the profit is more than lv 4s even after considering pirates [lost time etc]).

Yes, flying in high sec is the best solution to this problem.
Second best is to get a HAC. Better at missions and ratting and faster to leave the area if something goes wrong. But then, you would still be better off flying a HAC in high sec.
Third option is to embrace the risk and go all the way. Go to 0.0 NPC areas. Ratting is far better, missions bring more cash and you will never feel a false sense of security. The name ôlow secö is not accurate and it deceives many people. In 0.0 you know everyone will attack you. In low sec, you have to assume everyone will attack you. You have to behave the same way, but in low sec you get less reward for it.

AFAIK all of these "directional scanner" tips are pointless. If the opponent got a rigged cov ops with rigs, skills etc (that is, a normal non ret4rded setup) he can scan the huge signature of a rigged shield tanked ship without even having to close the probes in enough for them to be in range of the directional scanner. Or can deploy and recall probes to give the least warning and all that similar tricks. - Auditing and consulting

Just because you can theorycraft a way to bypass it doesn't make it pointless.

I rather thought the directional scanner was to pick up the sudden change of an updated inty on scan which in all likelyhood meant it was inbound to your location and its time to recall drones and fire up the warp core. > WHILE SIG<AWESOME DO LOOP there is no escape from my crappy sig. |

An ex-corpy of mine had this exact problem. He was in a HAM Drake and got tackled by a Cov-Ops Cheetah. Since it was Cov-Ops he of course couldn't see it coming on the scanner and since he was HAM he could'nt hit it. The Cheetah was kiting too fast for the drones to do much damage before the rest of the gang got there. Scratch one drake....
