Greetings:
When checking the recruiting channel, I've noticed a large number (I'm not sure of the proportion) of posts stating ventrillo or team speak were required to become members.
Why are those software applications considered better than eve voice?

When I was in Red vs Blue which primarily uses EVE Voice it did not work for good 10-20% of us. Some people were hearing bubbly broken up sounds while many others could not speak through it. My observations have been that much fewer players experience problems with Vent/Teamspeak, but EVE Voice is still a nice free addition to the game. Afaik EVE Voice drops if your client drops, so if you are in a gang your comms suddenly get cut off. This doesn't happen with Vent/TS and you can relog meanwhile listening to what's going on. Also with Vent or TS you can get several separate rooms allowing several groups to be doing different things but easily get into voice comms with each other. For example one groups might be ratting while talking in room 1 and another group might be pvping and talking in room 2. If pvper group needs help it takes a fraction of a second to switch and talk to the people ratting. There are also more advanced options like being able to place phantoms and so on which allow for some more complicated constructions of fleet comms in larger fleets.

Eve voice is tied to the eve server.
If the server lags, voice lag.
If the server drops, voice drops.
Also Vent and TS provide better controls for commanders.
They can chat with scouts and coordinate with other commanders, while still listening in on the fleet, without over whelming the fleet with information/tipping off spys.
and further more why do i even need a sig? |

Pretty much the same reason you want Firefox or Internet Explorer instead of the EVE browser.
There are a handful of corps that aren't vent/teamspeak required if that's something important for you.

Many "good" alliances require the use of alternate voice comms as EvE Voice is prone to issues and is only as stable as the EvE client itself.
Plus, alliances mature and sometimes members do stuff other than EvE (gasp, heresy!!) and thus need to be in contact with one another without having to log in for every question and incident that happens.
This doesn't mean that EvE Voice is useless. Quite the opposite. Many fleets in Faction Warfare utilize EvE voice so everyone can hear the orders and be on the same page.

EVE voice has two key benefits over ts/vent: no passwords and hassle with server IP's and such.
TS / vent offer other benefits like full control of what happens on your voice chat, not connected to eve client etc.

Another added advantage of external voice coms is when you are taking a system in null and have logged off in system. Just log on to the voice coms and check to make sure its safe instead of logging in to eve then join voice to find out that you're goning die as soon as you land.

I've always preferred Ventrillo because of the fancy special effects you can apply... Not necessarily to make people sound goofy, but to normalize volume. It's very nice to be able to make everyone roughly the same volume, regardless of what weirdness they may have going on their end. Very nice not to have to strain to hear certain people, and then have your ears blown out by someone else.
EVE Voice doesn't offer anything like that. Nor does TeamSpeak, to the best of my knowledge.

For some people Eve Voice doesn't work very well and is prone to be glitchy. I personally have never really been able to use Eve Voice all that well as it is very finicky about your internet, and my internet never seems to work with it. This is why I use TS.

now that useful discussion seems to be drying up I will also add that you can also sometimes hear voices whisper to you over Vent/TS and some ppl say it is Satan communicating with them .... unfortunately the Dark One doesn't seem to ever use EVE Voice so if you want to get in touch with him sometimes, you know sell your soul for a 0.0 region or that titan kill, then your alliance better be using ventrilo or teamspeak

EDIT: lol its way too early, this has been stated already, although people are clearly asking questions without actually reading the thread...
Assuming it's not a problem with your own connection; when eve crashes, you can remain on voice coms through vent or TS. This is not the case with eve voice. I hope I don't have to explain the advantage that gives you in a fleet op.
