Simple idea really, make it possible to sort the local channel by standings / security status.
Same as you can set the overview order, make it so that Local can be sorted to show that you have 5 war targets in the system of 700 people without having to scroll throught the local list constantly.

1. local is a chat tool not an intel tool. be glad there are marker for standing/wartarget at all.
2. please use the search. it was suggested and beaten down a lot of time already. (in worst case eve-search)

Actually, local is very much an intel tool.
In addition to sorting, an option to switch profile icon off should be added to reduce the vertical space taken by 50%.

As long as local exists, it should have a sensible interface. So sure, if CCP intends to remove local, or change it in some way, this wouldn't be needed- but as it stands, there's no reason that CCP should specifically avoid giving it a sensible interface. Local as it stands is an intel tool- whether you like it or not. Until that changes, this has my support.

While this idea sounds good at first glance (I also suggested something similar to this), the amount of server queries required to sort local by anything other than their name would make this feature too costly in resourses to be worthwhile.

you sure for this? as there are already flags etc for standings exists - probably can do with client side, with current data

Even if done client side the problems with repeated sorting local in a busy system would be less than good.
Also CCP have said local is not intended as an intel tool so good luck with getting more intel information added to it

As long as Local is set to delayed mode like in w-space I have no problem with this. Those people who want to talk and show up in the list can be sorted, those that don't won't appear.

While I am not for this issue I am not exactly against it. I wouldn't want chat list to be sortable by anything but alphabetical. But in an intel tool to replace local I think sorting by standings would be great.
OTOH I am for optional removal of portraits in chat lists allowing more names to be displayed in the same space. CCRES is recruiting pilots who want to live in WSpace/Wormholes. Fill out an application here! |

CCP should not spend any additional developer resources making Local as superior intelligence tool
Instead, they should concentrate all their resources of removing local as viable intelligence tool
