I've tried running these numbers multiple times now, and I keep coming out getting just pitiful amounts of profit- Can someone check my numbers?
Item in question: Scorch L
Assume 0 cost for ultraviolet L BPO and ultraviolet L crystal. Then (using jita prices) DC- Laserphys = 135,000 DC- HE = 215,000 OccultData = 1,020,000
With my skills, according to a EVEHQ plugin, I havea 50% success rate without using any kind of decryptor. This implies that a 10 run BP of Scorch L will cost me (sum of materials)*2 = 2,740,000, or 274,000 isk/run.
Next, material cost to create a Scorch L is about 1,124,071 for 4 focus crystals. Adding in the BP cost, we get 1,398,071. Which translates to 349,517 isk/crystal.
Finally, they seem to sell for around 640,000isk in jita. This means I can expect a net profit of around ~300k isk. Now the problem here is that making a set of 4 crystals takes 1.5 days, or 9 hours each. Thats a profit of 33,333isk/hour for a single line of production (NOTE: this does not include INVENTION time, only manufacturing), which means at MAX output I can expect to make 333,333 isk/hour. This does not at ALL compete with my projected income on rigs of about 1mil/hour on a single line of production, which also removes the hastle of invention.
I do not mean to whine or cry about how much isk I max out, I simply mean to ask- have I done all my math correctly? Is there some extra step in here that I'm missing to make this more profitable?
edit: this also assumes 0% tax/brokerfee

Ammo invention isn't that great as an isk maker try doing math on small or medium and ends up costing more to build then sell

I beg to differ! I'm making a fortune on certain T2 ammo. A bit of research and you too can do it. For several items build cost is approx. 1/3 of the current sell price. I could still sell to the buy orders and still profit.
Admittedly the profit margin on such things as missiles and rockets is a lot smaller but some move that fast that it makes it worth while.

You can make money on T2 ammo it's just that the production time is soooooo long for some of that (T2 Projectile for example) that you would make a better return on something else.

Other than putting the interface as a recurring cost, and ignoring other costs, nope, nothing radically wrong with the math. What CAN you do however to increase your profits is to invent and manufacture something else.

If the BPO-Owners do not already flood the market, you might have a chance to make some profit.
That is if those Crystals move realy at that price in an reasonable amount of time. --

In my experience (and it's not great) most t2 items are produced at approximately 250k/hour/slot pure profit (excluding taxes). This is especially the case for high market volume items. Low volume ones can go higher, sometimes reaching 1mil/hour/slot, but imho the lower volume means more time to move the stock+price wars and you end up with approximately the same net income.

Your problem is you are building T2 ammo, which although profitable, takes ages even in an Ammo Assembly Array to build, killing any ISK/Day profit you might get. T2 ammo is indeed a bit off on the production times (okay it's fubar) so it isn't you in that sense.
My advice? Invent something else, but do a little market research before you do.

Aside from other things, you are looking at things wrong, isk per hour is the wrong way to look at making things. Most of the time the things are in production you aren't actually doing anything with them so you can be doing other things at the same time. ie mission running or whatever.

Not isk per hour playing time, isk per hour per mfg slot. If you are using the slot, it is tied up, so you typically want to maximize the profit per hour of manufacturing time if it is the bottleneck.

scorch L moves baby!
I'm liquidating (most of) my assets as I have way too much crap laying around and sold about 150 scorch L that I invented/made like 2 years ago and have had sitting in the same hanger for that entire time. the big pile of scorch M is still sitting there though. but with a volume of 2000-4000 a day I'm thinking it should be gone over the weekend.
plus I tend to pvp rather conservatively so I don't lose stuff too often, and I almost never use scorch. (always carry [in a lasership] it of course)

you dont use one of the most effective crystals ingame??? Scorch gives your pulse lasers a huge range advantage while sustaining decent DPS, its one of the most used crystals for me personally. Scorch M in the Zealot gives your HPL 31km range, on a geddon you shoot MPL at 45km or DHPL at 41, its just awesome.

yes, now try warp disrupting people from those ranges using scorch in AN MF range is just stupid, and that's where the fight is within seconds assuming max point range as starting distance. not everyone fights with blobs, and most blob videos i've seen they're all sitting at 5km from each not moving anyway... -sig- Support the introduction of Blaze crystals for Amarr!

Edited by: Agent Unknown on 18/02/2010 06:08:09 I don't know about you, but I've been able to pull off 6mil/BPC profit on a specific module...although that module has fallen to a price point where it isn't worth the hassle...so I move on.
Here's the final results until I decided to pull out of that line of production. This is over a month or so considering it's just one character doing the manufacturing. I make all the components from raw materials.

I'm so sick of hearing about people whining about manufacturing if you dont get it just get out of it...
ues 33k isk/hr for doing... NOTHING!~ Your not actually up building the d*mn crystals for 9 hours, their set it and forget it money makers, you set it to run 10 runs of each BPC and come back in a week to 40 units of ammo that u can sell for 12m isk profit for doing 0 for that week. Is it a top money maker, no but then again its f*cking ammo, did u really expect to make billions of cash on t2 crystals? Invent an ark and make 4billion isk building it, but good luck doing it and building it etc. and getting the bpo.
Also Ammo dont use decrypters they dont help in any way they only hurt.
Also their was a bug in your calculation it costs 350k per run, as the occult data interface doesnt get consumed.

^this
Rly the "profit" in the ammo is in the fast moving, if you wanna make quick money then go ammo. if you wanna make big money go something else. and then again, do the math and for the love of god THINK about what you're going to make. If you hear pvp ppl claiming certain ammo types suck do not make it. Personaly the best for use for t2 ammo is to set things cooking and leave the system for a week or something to go do some wormholing. And yes t2 is very profitable i know ppl who make billions out of it. It's all in the invention skills and selling at the right time and place....

How does that apply to what I said? I was replying to this:

using "ammo depots" has nothing to do with how many production jobs a single character can run at a time, does it?
