Just how did you determine that the medium shader wasn't used that much by the eve community resulting in your decision to remove it? ___________________________________________________ CSM - Bring back Medium Shader! |

That is how they determined it. I can predict some things that way right now too...

Quote: The Plan
What we'd like to do is a two step approach to ensure that EVE continues to be jaw-dropping gorgeous:
Step 1: In Apocrypha, March 10th, we discontinue support for ShaderModel 1, making ShaderModel 2 (GeForce FX (5 series) or ATi R300 series cards or compatible) the minimum requirement and discontinue the "Classic client" version of EVE, replacing it with "Premium Lite"
Step 2: In the Winter Expansion 2009 we are considering discontinuing support for ShaderModel 2 and make the minimum specification ShaderModel 3(GeForce 6 class cards or ATi x1300 or compatible)
We know this will affect some players out there. What we don't know is exactly how many. We estimate that about 95% of all subscribers currently have hardware that is SM2 compatible. We further predict that in q4 this year over 97% of subscribers will have SM3 capable hardware. This means that an estimate of anywhere from 3%-5% of current subscribers would have to update their computers or graphics cards to be able to continue playing.

Grow up.
The only issue with that is they removed Medium Shader, not Low which measn the game still has a SM2 lower limit.
I don't care about medium shader since i never used it, just pointing out that CCP were thinking about removing low shader when they removed the classic client but decided against it since so many people can only use SM2 over those who could only use SM1. ------------------------------------- The system issues man. |

Well, I appreciate all the circle jerk volunteers but I was hoping to hear from a dev.
For as many times as I've posted this topic, no one in an official capacity has responded. Which make me wonder if they have a straight answer. ___________________________________________________ CSM - Bring back Medium Shader! |

[sarcasm] I have this absolutely novel idea which might amaze you : maybe, JUST MAYBE, the client occasionally reports to the server which shader model it uses right now, and maybe CCP also stores that data instead of throwing it into /dev/null. Of course, there's always the possibility a CCP dev asked around the office and then said "screw it". [/sarcasm]

Confirming that posting repeatedly on a subject that is already covered in Assembly Hall is just like gambling.

Its actually a massive joke on you Nooma. They only removed the medium shader on YOUR client. The rest of us got an email telling us to go along with it.
Sorry CCP but the jokes gone on too long now.

Tell that to a gambler.
You obviously understand as much about gambling as you do about client/server technology...
...and you can keep on wondering if they have a straight answer, chances are you'll never get a Dev reply on this subject - they don't generally troll the boards looking for entitled whingers who feel they deserve a personalised response to a non-issue.

I've done a detailed survey of the people for which this is an issue. This was done by counting the number of disaffected people on the forum, and subtracting the OP.
Result: 0
Conclusion: The OP is just a whiner....

We surveyed.
The result was that 6.7% used the medium setting, about a quarter used the low setting and about 70% used the high setting.
We determined that the development effort required to maintain the medium shader was unfortunately not worth it and we decided to focus our efforts on the high and low shaders.
