I know people succesfully use these ships to hunt for Bounty of Rats in 0.0. It is clear that using those Bombs is too expensive. So we have torpedoes which do great damage too. Could anyone suggest tactiscs, how to behave . Let's say we usaal situation:
1 Sancha Lord, 3 BC and one Frigate NPC. How to behave when coming to belt. Need practical suggestions, not theoretical,i do not want to loose ship on first flight
My fit on Purifier is: a) covert Ops Cloaking b) 3 arbalest siege missle launcher c) salvager
d) 1MN afterboorner e) target painter f) recharger
g)damage control h)ballistic control i)armor repair
Rigs, memory semiconductor.
Thanks ,

Avoid the elite scrambler frigs, EG: Serpentis its the "Guardian", I think for Sansha its the "Loyal". Those things will grab you and pop you faster than you can act. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

Edited by: Dragonmede on 20/02/2010 15:13:38 From practical experience as a Manticore pilot...
Don't try flying Solo in 0.0 with a SB until you have much more experience and feel comfortable with losing your ship every time out. Find a partner or 3 to go with you. Stealth Bombers are team players, so don't try being The Red Baron until your at least and Ace.
Pick your target Wisely, your flying in a wet paper sack, loaded with Torps. Your target should be larger than a cruiser, and alone. Also if you don't kill it with a 3 torp Alpha Strike then you are most likely dead, unless you have assistance.
Here is the situation, you must uncloak to fire your torps. If you get target locked while you are uncloaked you cannot get cloaked and are vulnerable. SB's are notoriously "fail tanked" and are easier to pop than their T1 frigate counterparts. Would you consider taking on those rats in a T1 frigate solo?
Most Rats are capable of targeting you the moment you uncloak unless you have someone else drawing aggro for you.
Torp damage is based on target signature and speed, and target size is a big consideration. In high sec I found that I couldn't kill the typical belt rat frigate in a Full Alpha Strike because of their signature. It takes a BS size target signature to get full DPS out of a torp. Torps that can easily do 800DPS or more to a BS will only get about 75DPS on a frigate, less if it's a fast mover. Torps are not guided missiles, they are huge dumb rockets.
Rats have to be target painted for a few seconds BEFORE you launch your Torps to get the Sig Bonus. That few seconds is critical as you must be uncloaked, vulnerable, and in range. At best, your target range with Torps is 35km. Fairly close for most NPC weapons.
The best use for SB's are scouting and DPS support for fleet. Honestly you would be much better off in a Solo fit Cruiser than attempting to hunt 0.0 belt rats in a bomber.

I think I was using something very similar to this to kill Sansha rats in Stain for a while. It worked pretty well as long as you kill the smaller ships first and save the battleships for last. Just be sure to keep moving.

I disagree. Your friend in belt rats is speed. Speed-tanking rats takes no effort and you punch a lot of DPS much faster than in a cruiser. The trick here is to kill first the smaller targets as you are much more vulnerable to them than to a BS.

Speed is def. for the win. I would just look for groups with no frigs and you should be golden.
I was a chicken**** carebear for the longest time scared of lowsec like a little girl scarred of a drunken mall santa. Then I grew balls. My alt was in lowsec the first day and hasn't been podded yet, nor lost many ships.

Train T2 torp launchers. Use Javelin torpedoes.
320+ DPS at 100+ km is your friend. |
