I wouldn't be surprised to find that you'll need to train some kind of skill which will limit the number of planetary regions you can control - similar to corp management, or fleet leadership skills.

Actually the #1 factor to why this will effect everyone is CCP has already said it will require you to nurse the districts manually, it may only take 10-15m but it still takes time that most alliance dudes i doubt will want to do to 500 planets * however many districts ...
#2 it will be widely available as CCP has already said they are planning to set the bar for capsuleers to rule districts very low to start off....
I just hope that low entry also has the skills requirement build up, so if u want to make this a career you can do just planet interaction with the right skills and be a king on many planets and districts etc.

50,000 Planets times x (say 20) Districts = 1 million Districts in the game.
Not too hard to make sure there are lots for everyone. I think this is going to add a huge dimension to pirating when Dust hits.

lol first learn to think out of the box as ccp likes to say: 1: yes this will propably happen but alliances are run by people so wheres the problem? 2: maybe ccp want to get the bear industrialist out in low sec in corporation toghter to get into the first steps of pvp (pvp = eve, not bearing thats where hello kitty online is for) 3: Who mentioned high sec planets will be farmable, moons arnt ether.... eve isk risk vs reward, only T2 bpo's are zero risk 100% reward 4: We dont have crystal balls so lets just wait 5a: Que? 5b: Que?
they prop invent some new chains to make new shiny stuffs, like t3 reaction chain, something like that... just wait and see

Actually, I'd be surprised if there wasn't some sort of "administration" skill like you mention.

From the information thats been given id say:
- Running a district would be a demanding task, id love to see one person try to run a planet. Probarly possible but with constant option tweaking, isk input and endless problems arising (CCP have already stated this could make or break players, like everything else in EVE) i highley doubt one multi gazillionaire is gonna be controlling more than a planet.
- I know you said not to say this, but with my above point it needs to be said. Theres enough planets! 55k+ is more than a sufficent number.
- CCP havnt told us how big these districts are, or whether the code allows the number to be expanded. Id say realism sake would limit it, but im sure if problems like your suggesting do arise CCP can always boost the number of districts per world. I mean how may districts (CCP hasnt said countries, or even regions but districts) does earth have? Hundreds of thousands maybe?
I really dont think you need to worry, district Korad will be yours for the taking once tyrannis rolls out!

What I find most worrying is: "you will finally be able to survey for juicy deposits of minerals and other goodies, build infrastructure to harvest them, store them, process them and launch them into space."
Isn't there already a hyperinflation of minerals and ways to produce them? Isn't Veldspar already cheap enough to make worthwhile blowing up BSs at stations to cash in the insurance?
Jesus, do we really need this crap?

What an ill-thought-out argument this is.
You have completely overlooked the fact that.....
- You might 'rent' sections of the planet - i.e they will be come available to other players, like research slots, if you are willing to wait
- There might be thousands of areas of the planet up for rent - making the total number of available places larger than the player base requirement
- Most things in EVE are unfair and/or you need to fight for them.
- The ISK income from planets will probably be less than other common sources - making them a choice for players wanting to use Dust integration in future or to simplify industrial work rather than make oodles of isk.
- Not everyone will want or even care about renting a section of planet. I'm not particularly bothered by it.
- Planetary interaction will be like farmville in space and have a lower take-up than you are assuming.
- You could join a 0.0 alliance, low-sec corp or high sec empire corp instead of just whining about it.
- You could be a Chribba alt
- The affect of the release might be that mineral prices go up because less players mine but tend to their pink space-cattle instead.
The bottom line is that I have found these annoying signatures are actually quite funny. |

amounts can be tweaked. there will be resource sinks as well Signature - CCP what this game needs is more variance in PVE aspects and a little bit less PVP focus, more content more varied level 1-4 missions more than just 10 per faction high sec low sec and 00 |

I just want a piece of Minmatar planet. A nice quiet spot, a few square kilometres big. Calm, lots of green, two sunsets and great temperatures. A nice place where I can gather Minmatar slaves together and then stuff them into a freighter to sell them in Amarr space. ________________________________________________

On a serious note there will not be a limted number of districts on each planet (well at this stage at least...)

Absolutely!
CCP! Make it so that the characteristics of the districts differ between empires. I would love to open a facility in Amarr space and stock it full of slave labourers. :D
Amarr planets : Lots of happy singing slaves in the fields. Bonus to low-skill produce, ie processing ore, breaking rocks, telesales etc. Advanced work is very expensive as you have to employ actual qualified free-folk to do it.
Minmatar planets : Lots of happy singing free people working in the fields. Slaves illegal. Costs of production are somewhat higher, but advanced production is somewhat cheaper than elsewhere.
Caldari planets : Very low paid workers. Slaves illegal. Production costs for unskilled/semi-skilled are not quite as low as in Amarr space, but quality of work is almost as low. Advanced work prices are moderate/competitive.
Gallente planets : High production costs on low-skill stuff due to laws that prevent the exploitation of the workforce. Good base for advanced production though.

"As we know we will be able to buy "districts" of planets or all of them and that seems to be the problem - what can stop billionaires in EvE from buying all planets making this addon almost useless for everybody else"?
This is EVE Online - if someone has 'stuff' you want then you can always shoot them in the face (in game) and take it.
Easy eh?

Edited by: Nefriel Arkori on 11/03/2010 00:20:35 As stated in the dev blog, you wont be able to have any planetary combat until the winter expansion or later.
So until then, it really matters very little where the best planets will be housed, as you can always just covert ops to the location and farm, cultivate, construct, what not. Even if null sec is the only place that will give worthwhile time investment returns, you can always hold a planet there and jump clone in and out in the worst case scenario and use a covert ops in the best case.
So I don't see the planets being any different in regards to the sec status of the system. Simply because being in a null sec system, the planet doesn't hold any additional risk. No one can blow it up for at least 6 months, which should be plenty of time for supply to stabilize and become less profitable.
As for the actual interaction, I have a feeling it will be a lot like playing Travian in EVE. You build up a little town, your town makes resources that you use to further build it up (not export out). If you neglect it, it will do poorly because of overstock or NPC bandits will raid it and what not. In the expansion to come, those NPC bandits then sometimes turn into real dust players.

Official information:
-Skills will be required
-All planets can be accessed as long as you can get to them
-Different planet types will have different resources/qualities/hazards to deal with
-Planets have a set amount of resources
-Resources are split among all players harvesting it on that planet
-There is not currently mentioned limit to number of players per planet, however, it was specifically mentioned that the mechanic is being built so as to include a huge number of players so that the planet becomes unappealing to players to work before hitting a cap. That is, the resources gathered would be spread so thin it'd become insignificant.
-Finding planets not often used will be more rewarding
-Planets in wormholes will be accessible in the same way
-Planets in Nullsec can only be worked by alliances holding sov. When sov is lost, the player's planet functions simply freeze until sov is regained.
-No planet war as of yet, coming with DUST. - - - Aloriana Jacques - Skill Sheet

Expanding on this, it is pretty much implied in the devblog one player can have only one command center per planet, and the skills would also limit the number of planets they can have command centers on. So, what's stopping billionaires from hogging all the planets ? The same thing that stops them from monopolizing the entire T1 production market.

Most of the post on this thread are awesome and offers a lot of insight!
I personally think also that ccp are just adding random features without any thinking at all and i agree that is is almost 100% likely that rich players buy all planets and newbies gets nothing.
