Lately I've been missioning for the Gallente Navy, and not for any particular reason (other than the agents being conveniently located). However, I've been watching my Amarr standing drop like crazy as a result, and now when I see missions pop up that pit me against Amarr, I decline it. But these missions pop up so frequently that I often have to go away from the agent for awhile in order to avoid losing standing.
So my question is, is it really worth the trouble trying to juggle my standing like this? Can I happily play EVE without ever going into Caldari or Amarr space? Basically, is it fine for some factions to like you while others totally hate your guts?

Its the way of the world. If you suck up to one faction, another will hate you for it. Im amarr and gallente used to shoot my behind as soon as I warped into their space...was a bit of a problem when I wanted to join RvB for some cheap pvp action as its in gallente space...but I trained connections so they wont attack me anymore! If I remember correct its -5 standing or better and youre welcome to go to their space. "Assumption is the mother of all ****-ups!" |

If you find another corp, like perhaps Fed Customs, to mission for then you won't be given quite as many faction missions. I stopped accepting most of the missions against Caldari and Amarr that I was offered and that has kept my negative standing with both factions well above the -5 limit before they start shooting at you.
I've known players who ignored their standings with a particular faction and it never affected them until their corp decided to move base into a system belonging to that faction or their corp was war decced by a corp that stayed mainly in a given faction's space where they weren't welcome, effectively preventing them from joining any fights.
You may not need to enter Amarr space, but then again...

Edited by: Zartrader on 25/02/2010 09:54:17 It used to bother me but it was too much flaff to try and balance it so now I just decline any faction missions. Also I think Diplomacy 5 will ensure you never get to the point they will fire at you. It's easier to get Gallante and Amarr back though as you can use the Sisters of Eve. I have a level 4 sisters agent now and it would not take long to get the those standings back if I had to. Also in the last patch they changed it so you can always do level 1 missions.

Federation Navy (my starter corps) very often give mission against the opposite faction, including destroying their ships (bad) and their structures (worse).
I changed to another agent, problem solved (nearly).
After some time situation with opposite faction gets worse, anyway. I did it by moving to caldari space and do some missions for an agent there. So it¦s possible to have positive standing with all factions. When i remember correctly for +1 with one faction you¦ll loose -0.5 with the opposite.

Hope this helps!

The missions you need to decline are the missions that have you killing other empire faction ships and it is a good idea to decline them, you never know when you will want to enter their space.
You can happily accept missions against a faction which doesn't have you killing them, in particular the one where you have to approach a ruin and then report back to your agent what you found. You get ambushed but can warp out without having to kill anything.
You can happily accept Important Storyline missions and you should, because they give massive standing boost to both the friendly faction AND Corp AND usually give a nice reward - 4M Isk or a 20M Isk implant is common for L4s. People will tell you to avoid these because they give negative standing to the opposing faction, but this is capped at -5.0
This is the important figure that you want to avoid dropping below and as I say, it just won't go below that for a Storyline mission. Note the negative standing test is applied before your Connections / Diplomacy skills are taken account of. Thus, if your standing is -4.6 (raised by Diplomacy from -5.1) and you complete a Storyline mission for the opposing faction, there will be no change, because the raw figure of -5.1 is used.
Note that you should decline storyline missions like regular missions that actually have you killing other faction ships.

If you are going to live mostly in Empire, then not having the navy shooting at you is worthwhile.
Your best bet is to mission for another corp, not a navy.
Check EVE-Agents.

Shooting another faction happens regardless of which corporation you mission for, unless they only give courier/mining missions. This tanks your standings.
The best way to keep them balanced is to avoid the missions; there are plenty of other agents you can go to while the 4 hour timer wears off. Diplomacy helps a lot as well. By the way, this is my signature.
