I think the player base would be well served by a high vs. low detail functionality. If Eve Gate programmers are too busy/lazy/disinterested/ or otherwise constrained, then they should not destroy the high detail funcitonality in-game for the sake of a website where you cannot actually play the game. IF that means any management that occurs over the internet can only be done in low detail of functionality, then so-be-it.
Corporations need the tools to organize themselves and rank whomever or whatever by any means neccessary for anything possible. Alliances and corporations should have a basics tab, and then there should be a much more detailed tab for people who want to tinker with advanced settings, perhaps even a basic programming language.
THe Huge Appeal of Eve is that as an adult player its level of detail and endless depth keep me forever wanting to learn, expand, experiment and evolve. Mandating sophisticated systems be destroyed for the ease of use of a social-networking website is contrary to the spirit of Eve.
And I know, this is a crazy complicated game, and its hard for new players, and over time it has only gotten more complicated. THe answer to this is to find ways of creating simple functionality for people who are not fully adapted, BUT not destroying the sophistication of those who have developed it.
Finally. Allowing players to import their own UI modifications, like WoW does is extremely important, because the funcitonality of the current UI is not half as good as some of the open-source stuff that could be docked on the thing. You cannot possibly keep up with the endless variety of informational combinations that players desire. If that is not feasible, you should have a client side widget submission, bug-check, and upload/download area in the game, where the programmer agrees to give CCP enough rights that they can't be sued and the player can't claim to have been mistreated in court. Think of it as the app store on an iphone, only for eve. (Especially concerning the goddamn galaxy map)
My best
