I'm mainly concerned with solo PvP at the moment, but fleet pvp with me as the tackler isn't out of the question.
I have my three autocannons with their damage augmented by my gyrostab. The 4th slot currently holds a nos, but I really don't think I need it. I have one cap battery and it keeps my cap stable enough to run AB+webber+scram unless I'm taking heavy damage and have to start repping.
If I ditch the nos, that leaves me with either putting a launcher in place for more DPS, or a small smartbomb for drone demolitions (as it is now I stay clear of drone users).
I haven't played with this fit in EFT to even see if I can use it, but assuming I can, is a smartbomb worth it on a rifter or should I stick a launcher on it?
Also, what's the most effective all-around smartbomb damage type for killing drones, and how many pulses would it take on average to clear them out?

Can you post your current rifter fit please? Because some of the things you said doesn't make much sense (such as cap battery+AB+webber+scram, that's 4 midslots). It will also help us determine what's best for your current fit.

Sorry I probably used the wrong term. I'm at work right now and don't have access to my fit. I know I have ab+web+scram for sure, and I have some low slot cap module (the one that increases recharge rate I want to say) along with an armor repper and gyro

Rocket for extra DPS, energy neut for shutting down your targets tackle/weapons/tank or nosferatu to help run your tank as a rule.

Rockets are terrible. Unless you're fighting a webbed cruiser you wont be doing full damage, so that's out.
I'd go with a nos. You have enough active mods on your ship that it would really help if you get neuted or are in a fight for awhile.

You won't be doing full damage with your projectiles either.
While I agree rockets are in need of a boost, they still do dps, and a scammed target recives most of it.
I use rockets on my rifters for more dps. The fights I use it in is also usually over before I really get to take advantage of a neut, but neut is not a bad option.

For frigate vs frigate action a rocket launcher is the way to go, for engaging anything cruiser sized or larger a nos will often serve you better.

Nos, neut or rocket launcher. Depends on fit - for example on rifter with sar you want nos, for mse rifter you want neut etc. If you are using rl, keep in mind that real range of rockets is not 10k, but 7-8k.

Yes you will be. Unless it's a Dramiel circling you at 10km/s or something ridiculous, you'll be doing full damage...Unless you're in falloff, in which case you're losing maybe ~5% of your DPS.
The first time I saw rocket explosion velocity I thought it was a bug, that someone had forgotten a zero. The effective damage even against webbed frigates is just horrifyingly bad. Even the EFT DPS (aka not what you'll get) of a single unbonused rocket launcher is virtually nothing.
If you are sure you'll never need the extra cap, then fit a neut. Either of those options is better than a rocket lanucher

Edited by: Urn Keller on 25/02/2010 21:55:06 3 options basically:
Rockets (dps) Nos (tank sustaining) Neut
With 200mm T2 ACs, usually rockets are the only thing that fits.
If you don't have an armor repper, Nos will do nothing.
So:
400mm plate, MAPC, Neut, dunno about guns, I don't fly this 200mm plate, armor rep, Rocket, 200mm AC 200mm plate, armor rep, Nos, 150mm AC
Small smartbomb suck at drone destruction.
I normally use rockets because with 200mm T2 ACs, 2 damage rigs (burst & accelerator) and T2 DCU and SAR, it still fits and like the range from 200mm ACs w/barrage.

1. 95% of the time you will be in falloff, how deep in falloff depends on your target 2. nos is option if you think you will be neuted /most likely cruisers, some frigs/ and when you run sar 3. neut is viable only on buffer fits - 400rt and mse - you need some time to cap out your target /for example 200rt wont give you enough time to cap out crusader, it will just tear you apart with its supreme dps before its cap will reach 0/ 4. rl can give you at least little bit more dps in situations, when nos or neut are not bringing any benefits
- for example :
[Rifter, New Setup 2] 200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I Pseudoelectron Containment Field I Gyrostabilizer II
1MN Afterburner II Faint Epsilon Warp Scrambler I Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I
200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S 200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S 200mm AutoCannon II, Barrage S 'Malkuth' Rocket Launcher I, Caldari Navy Phalanx Rocket
Small Projectile Burst Aerator I Small Projectile Ambit Extension I Small Projectile Ambit Extension I
- you dont need nos to run tank and you are trying to stay outside neut range anyway /well depends on target/, rl will give you at least some dps /count with 6 in reality/

I haven't seen this option yet: leave it empty. Not saying this is always the best choice but there's not a whole lot that your last high will do for you and it might make you able to fit the rest of the ship in a better way. Especially since you seem to be a really young character.
