As a software engineer, I find it a horror; a complete lack of competence that developers, testers, analysts and others never considered the game machanics as abusive.
If you did consider it, shame on you for not doing much. Luck is on CCP's side. Thank goodness they are writing code for nothing that holds anyone's life at stake.
Thank goodness that they code a game. I would hate to see what they would code for applications that are mission critical.

Is the code so complicated and intricate that the ability to see the obvious blinds you all?

If you want to improve the Q&A of CCP apply and do so. Otherwise, stop posting on forums just to boost your ego with skills you lack. Nobody cares that you are a 24 star armchair general with far more knowledge of the idiots guide to computers then playing the actual game itself.

Worst of all, it was VERY simple math. The mechanics of the exploit were elementary. That is the point. It was so simple and easy to follow, understand and execute. |

OP as a vet bug/exploit tester I'm going to put this in plain english:
Document the Bug/Exploit, Write down a clear and concise methodology, Provide clear pictures or videos(without music)
, Send in your petition or email the customer service rep and the most important step of all is to not post it on the game forums.
Giving players public knowledge of an exploit or openly chastising the dev team for missing something in their code will only put you in the bad books.

It wasn't a bug, that's the problem. It was a poorly thought out design decision. People warned CCP that this was a bad idea, they refused to listen.
It took Five Goon market heroes (and 5 trillion ISK) to prove the point beyond a shadow of a doubt, saving the economy from months and years of horrible people stabbing it repeatedly for less money at a time, but more money overall.
Personally, I think they should get a statue put in orbit around Jita 4-4 undock celebrating their economics wizardry, but that's just me.

It was an exploit plain and simple. They're may have been lots of poor and unthought out programming that allowed said exploit to be profitable, but that doesn't change it from being an exploit. Collecting LP for items that did not get destroyed was unintended, which makes it an exploit. So any thing you do with that ill-gained lp, no matter how valid it is (i.e. market manipulation) you are still abusing an exploit.
If Goons would of done everything they did, without farming months worth of exploited LP before it got patched, you guys would be sitting on even more money than you are now. I imagine CCP wouldn't have taken back your ill-gained isk, because it wouldn't of been ill-gained.
So get off your high-horse, goons didn't save Eve. You guys found an unintended mechanic and abused the sh*t out of it. You guys have been playing Eve long enough to know what you were doing was wrong. A mature, responsible adult would of found the exploit, done it one or two more times to make sure it is repeatable, then QUIT ******* CHEATING and created a petition. You guys instead decided to continue to cheat until it was hardwired into the game that you cannot. When I play Monopoly and I am banker, just because I can steal 100's doesn't mean I do. Just because you can abuse an unintended mechanic doesn't mean you should. |

Yep, it's an alt trying to covertly rail against the decision made by CCP to classify the LP Exploit as an exploit. In a game where people complain and moan if there is no new content released each week, this is a complaint by those who feel slighted bu that decision, saying that its CCP's fault for not finding this exploit before they did as they exploited it.

Lets get this straight, the LP gained on destruction of a ship based on its value was NOT a bug or an exploit, If you cant understand this you are ignorant.
It was how ever a bad design idea. Add on to this manipulation of markets and there will be problems.
Bottom line is, love the goons or hate the goons they brought a huge problem in to the spotlight.
Seems like the goons actually did the most to bring this problem to light, as opposed to random people crying.
Besides the only gain they will end up getting from all of this... is a plex or two. So they spent a HUGE chunk of time to come out a plex or two ahead, when you could have been playing the game and gained much more. |
