So I am very impressed by the new graphics of eve. We have wondefull looking planets and moons. We have an awesome looking starfield. But we have awful looking nebulas everywhere. Why is this? Cant we atleast have the ability to turn them off? Why has CCP left them as they are after everything else has been updated? I mean i love the graphics but the nebulas are just terrible and really detract from everthing else. So will the ever update them?

Just remove them, maybe it would actually feel as if you're in space if you weren't surrounded by psychedelic unrealistic nondescript clouds that are supposed to be nebulae but are somehow a few hundred thousand times more common, visible and colourful than nebulae in rl. --------------------------- Only those who surrender are lost |

The new starfield with Apoc (or was it Dominion?)at least greatly reduced the definition of the nebulas so they don't look like clouds in an airline commercial. Prior to that their identical nature and fake look was a real graphics lowpoint.
The nebulas provide some light so that we can see our ships, other ships, gates, asteroids, etc., against something other than a black, inky background. Imagine trying to mine in a pitch black asteroid belt. CCP would have to introduce headlight mods and give every ship an extra high slot.
The nebulas are not going anywhere, you'll learn to ignore them like overweight people in a grocery store. You've got more important things to attend to.....

Asthetics aside, remember that you are not viewing them with the naked eye. You are viewing them through your ships sensor (camera drones) which allow you to see things that the limited human eye cannot.
Whether that is a benefit or a curse in this case is a personal judgement call.

If anything is to be done please let it be a toggle....
Some people like the nebula as they give a color and distinction between systems.
I really think if every system was just the same starfield it would soon get boring.

Nebulae could stand to be toned down in their brightness, but I think it would be boring and actually more unrealistic if they were removed entirely.

Edited by: Benri Konpaku on 04/03/2010 22:14:59 They could be made much more subtle without impacting the colorfulness of the environment much.
And suns definitely need to "produce" much more light than they do now. |

Once upon a time, there was a glitch that made the nebulae disappear. The entire EVE community rejoiced in celebration as the sky was filled with bright stars in clear black cosmos, many threads were made to cheer such a wonderful change.
...then CCP fixed it...

What about actual volumetric nebulae that are visible in its actual scale from anywhere in the universe instead of a skybox from 1991? Here's a far out idea, the closer you are to one, the bigger it is.
Maybe oneday we could, you know, fly through one?
