Hi
thinking of doing some hi sec exploration in the future but would like an idea of the difficulty/rat size I can expect. Mostly thinking of hacking or archaeolgy sites. Any guidance is handy, but especially on what I can achieve solo.
Thanks

Mostly a bunch of frigates. Pretty much what you'd find in belts.

If you check the lower security high sec systems and concentrate on scanning down the lowest strength signals first you may get lucky and find a 4/10 complex. And then if you REALLY lucky you may get a faction spawn Bs. And then if you are EXTREMELY lucky you may get a decent faction drop. Good luck and happy hunting to you.

This. I've had a few Radar sites give me 2 destroyers to fight, but that's the worst I've seen so far. The actual combat scan sites will of course be harder, but the ships in the non-combat sites are almost exclusively frigates.

How do I distinguish the combat sites? Radar, Gravimetric, ladar for the normal ones - what do the combat sites show as?

Unknown, the same group as wormholes.

I think until lowsec the vast majority of the rats are frigates/dessies, lowsec starts giving cruisers (BC's as the 'tough' rats), and really lowsec/0.0 gives BS's.

Radar and Magnetometric sites, the worst you'll see are destroyers.
Anomalies, the worst you'll see are cruisers.
Combat sites, though, can have anything up to battlecruisers (and sometimes lots of them), and I know of at least one DED plex that has a battleship.
If you're just going to do Hacking and Archaeology sites then you'd be able to do them in a cruiser quite easily.
