I understand the one Shield booster, but a comparable active armor tank HAS to be dual reps.... an x-type x-l booster nightmare would far outperform a single x-type LAR vindicator/etc, especially with shield boost amps. I argue that you should be able to fit TWO faction/officer/etc armor reps on your flagship, and keep the one shield booster limit.

Thanks for that. Also, I did not notice a clause in flagships regarding rigs. Does this mean flagships may only still fit just tech 1 rigs?
The offset of faction/officer modules receives an explosion in power when you add in tech 2 rigs to the equation. Otherwise they become very expensive liabilities.

Surely alliances with unique ships such as the state raven/ tribal pest have a huge advantage with the use of officer/ faction fittings...

I would gladly give up winning the tournament if it involves killing a unique ship. ___

so would a flag ship be able to use tech2 rigs or would it still be required to have only tech1's fitted?

I'm also interested in why Tech 2 battleships weren't listed as being able to be flagships. Was this an oversight or is there a reason they can't be used?

Hmm, faction reps with a marauder's rep bonus and T2 resists.
No, can't see a problem with that being overpowered at all
Remember that there is an upper limit on the amount of DPS people can bring which is why only limited faction modules are allowed on the Flagship (no officer invulns etc).

Good point.
I'll reword this to "hull type and fitted modules". Charges and drones won't need to be submitted.

I can't help but think some team is going to bring an Estamel ECM Scorp as their flagship and support it with basilisks or something. Which, admittedly, would make for a very interesting match.
I could see a lot of teams using the "flagship" as a ruse. For example, they could post a setup with one specific weakness and assume the enemy team may try to capitalise on that weakness. This gives a potential clue about what the enemy may bring. It also raises an important question - does the team that submits their flagship have to prove they have the actual ship and modules ready before the tournament? Otherwise they could submit a ridiculously over the top officer fit to increase the risk to the other team of not countering the flagship.

So I've asked for years why we can't use pirate implants and the answer was always about isk and it's unfair to less wealthy alliances. But now we are allowed something of equal cost. So now that you can't use the isk excuse anymore, why can't we use pirate implants.

Firstly you can only use limited faction gear on one ship in the entire tournament - you can't pimp every ship and can't use pirate hardeners etc.
Secondly pirate implants give a huge benefit for zero risk - poddings are forbidden and reimbursed. It would require all pilots to fly with them to be competitive and even without loss it would hit the poor alliances harder (many rich alliances will fly with them anyway).
Thirdly the only way they would allow pirate implants in AT8 would be on flagships - and with the allowed pirate modules would make them overpowered.
So yes, people can pimp one single ship for the whole tournament (or not) rather than allowing free for all on mods and implants for all ships. This limits the cost whilst still allowing shiny flagships...

The rules do not state Flagships as able to use T2 rigs thus they can't use T2 rigs |

I would gladly give up winning the tournament if it involves killing a unique ship.
Thing is that fitting a State Raven with faction fittings would make no sense, ( if it was allowed) you would be better off with using a Golem.
I have considered it.... But we will see

It is pretty clear that cloaks are not allowed, it is even stated in the very same line that says all highslot modules.
From the flagship rules
Quote: 2. Flagships are able to fit faction, officer, cosmos, and deadspace versions of the following modules, ignoring tournament rules to the contrary:
*All Highslot Modules (not including remote armour repair modules, remote shield transfer modules, or cloaking devices)
