Would it be difficult for me (an American) to access Eve Online while in China? Does anyone have any experience with this?
Does the ping suck etc?
I may/or may not be heading to China next year as a student and would like to know before I slap another year onto my Eve account. Would suck if I couldn't log in and play.
Sig Gallery is currently down: Contact me ingame for prices.

CCP has explicitly stated that one of the reasons that they DON'T ban all IPs from China (to fight RMT) is because there are legit players who play from China. You will be fine.
Ping-wise...The couple hundred ms difference wont mean anything because of how EVE's gameplay works.

I play from mainland China and have played EvE off and on for the last 18 months from here. I have had absolutely no problem connecting to the game. If you're learning Chinese you'll be happy to know there's a Chinese language chat channel in-game (channel browser) you can use to practice as well.
The ping is fine, since most of EvE's gameplay doesn't require twitch-style actions. Other than gate camping as an Interceptor on Disrupt/Decloak duty I'd say you probably won't notice the difference.
And because someone mentioned it, but not to derail, banning Chinese IPs doesn't stop RMT, it only stops legit players. Companies like CCP have, thankfully, realized this and haven't put in regional blocks. RMT companies will proxy, legit players probably won't, introducing IP bans works for a couple of days but then it's right back to normal.
If you don't believe that, log into Aion. You still get tons of messages every day and they have regional blocking in for ALL countries outside of the designated regions for each server. Or, at least, regional blocking in all countries they have a localized version for.

The right thing to do would be to ban all the american IPs since they are the ones buying the isk in the first place

On many occasions I have connected to Eve whilst in China and have had no problems. The connection speed all depends on where abouts in China you will be. I often go to Guangzhou and the internet there isn't too bad, however I imagine if you are going out into the wilderness you may have a bigger problem.
I often found I had socket lost issues whilst I was in China though, I think that was because the internet kept cutting out for me. Also pro tip: If there is a storm coming... get to a safe spot and prepared to log off, quite often the power will trip across a large amount of houses in a storm.

so far, I've been able to connect to TQ from Guangzhou and Hong Kong with no problems, although I would probably not be willing to pvp
