If I train a skill that gives me, for instance '+10% damage per level' with a certain ship, does it give +10% on top of the full amount each time in a compound-interest type way, i.e. level one = 100 damage +10%, level two = 110 damage +10% etc,
or is it just applied to the base value, so level five would give a flat 50% increase?
Sorry for the noob question

Edited by: Estel Arador on 11/03/2010 16:30:42 Bonusses from levels of a single skill are additive (50% at level V in your example). Bonusses from different skills, modules and implants affecting the same stat/attribute/item are multiplicative.

Its a good noob question btw. Because some skill descriptions are confusing until you understand them.
It seams there isnt a lot of "compound interest" in eve . Compound penalty tho ...thats a common theme of stacking mods .

Most bonuses work like this. For example a 5% bonus per level towards gun optimal:
Base optimal is 3000m
Base * 1.05^level
So for level 1: 3000 * 1.05^1 = 3150 m For level 4: 3000 * 1.05^4 = 3647 m
To my knowledge, only the connections skills are cumulative, the rest is multiplicative. --- Braaaiiinnnsssssssssss |

Uhm, in one word: WRONG.
It works like this: base*( 1 + bonus/level * skill level) = 3000m * (1+0.05*4) = 3600m (using your example)
If two skills have the same effect then their effects multiply: for instance 2 skills at lvl4 giving a 5% bonus/lvl: base * (1 +bonus1/lvl *level skill 1) * (1 + bonus2/lvl *level skill 2) = 3000 *( 1+0.05*4)*(1+0.05*4)=3000*1.2*1.2=4320m in the example of max range.
However, as far as I know, the effects of different connection skills do add up (not multiply): base lp (1 + bonus1 * level skill1 + bonus2 * level skill2)
Everything else, that does not have a stacking penalty, works like the max range example. Unless of course explicitly stated otherwise in the skill description.
EDIT: math failure

OK... I think I get that!
Many thanks for the info.

I couldn't find one I liked, so just pretend this is a humorous image with a large font caption reading "WRONG". --------------- Faction-Militia:Player-Alliance::Newbie-corp:Player-corp |

Whoops, yeah, i was confused with modules, which indeed work like that, like cargohold expanders.
