What?! Are you totally freaking kidding me? You have to wait five minutes before posting? So, let's say you are carrying on a discussion in a thread. Something that would take 10 minutes, suddenly takes two hours to go back and forth, because of the five minute delay before posting? Or what about people that would like to contribute to more than one thread?
The website admins who handle this really don't have a clue what they are doing. Why even have a forum if you can't discuss, in a timely fashion?
I'm not even talking about single sentence posts, I just wrote four flippin paragraphs and it said I needed to wait five minutes? It had already been three minutes since my last post! I have my doubts that anyone types less than 30-40 words per minute on here, so why have such an incredibly long time between allowed posts?

It's a spam control mechanism introduced to prevent the entire forum being flooded with malicious links.
Forum regulars know a way around it, but I'm not gonna tell you since you're a whiner.

Thank you, thank you. *bows* I know I have an impressive personality and am a born leader, but my statement was not intended as a directive to lesser forum denizens. Other people may choose to follow my lead if they so wish, but are allowed to ignore my example (at their peril  ).

They introduced this last year because forums were flooded by spam posts containing malicious link. Many players lost their accounts opening these links and then forums got flooded by second wave of "omg what happened to my accounts" threads. So CCP took a bunch of measures to prevent this kind of spam, including the 5 minute timer.

Hey just do it like we did it back before the thread spam fest about 10 months ago. We would typically get logged out for only a few minutes of inactivity back when I first started posting. SO what you can do to get around the current mechanism is log out after each post and then re-log. It is a pain, but the spam fest was horrendous, and this is a small price to pay to keep General Discussion at its normal size

As others have mentioned in this thread, it was necessary for CCP to put this limitation in given the tidal wave of malware spam the forums were hit with. I assure you Cassidy, the measure was necessary.
Also, please don't discuss ways of bypassing this system on the forums. Thank you.
