If this was a good idea i'm sure someone else will have thought of it and dismissed it but on the off-chance no one has i'll ask it.
Can we have the option to control our ships mid-battle with cursor keys? I think it'd be useful for frigates to zig-zag towards larger targets to avoid full damage from their guns. And alternatively it can be used largere ships to reduce transversal on the evasive smaller ships.
Just a thought, i'll stop having them i promise.

Many people proposed that. The main idea is that current controls are best for scale of fight and game. This game is more about thinking rather then fast turns. Plus mechanics of the game are opposite (all calculations are done on server and not on client) I'm absolutly sure that CCPers said somewhere that they don't want to implement this feature at all. ------------------------------------------------- I am envoy from nowhere in nowhere. Bite yourself. If you'd looked at all, you would have seen there's an app somewhere around for you to play EVE with a joystick. Not so good for titans, but great for inties. Apparently. I've never been interested in this pointless nonsense.
(Here's a tip, there's no LoS in EVE, only range and angular velocity, thus, placement is irrelevant, and movement needs only to be primitive.) _____ ^ That is a sig line. It should be there without me having to put one in. |

I think the responsiveness from the controls would be disappointing with agility and acceleration of eve. But it wouldn't exactly be difficult to program keys on the keyboard to alter the angle / bearing that the ship is heading in. Probably more laggy too. Might be easier on the servers when it can calculate ship movements itself rather than taking input from a client constantly and verifying constant headings.

This is a great idea and should be added in the game ASAP!

It seems that CCP think that this idea doesn't fit into EVE enviroment... ------------------------------------------------- I am envoy from nowhere in nowhere. Nobody and nothing have sent me. And though it is impossible I exist ¬ Trimutius |

This comes up at least once a week. People clamor for joystick or WASD control for their ships in EvE, because they miss X-Wing and Wing Commander and Freespace and all those other sweet games. It's been a long time since a really terrific space flight game has come out, and I think we're all jonesing for one a little bit, but EvE isn't the place to get it. The engine doesn't support it, the server latency would not be conducive to it and the ships aren't really the kind you'd fly with a joystick. Even an interceptor is a massive machine, not the sort of thing you'd be doing barrel rolls in. In terms of the fiction, it's a neural interface, so the joystick doesn't even make sense from a roleplay angle.
I've always come down against this idea, and I've always been strongly in favor of CCP making a new game that's a flight sim in the old style, where I can get out my Cyborg Evo and hop in my Dragonfly fighter and adjust my throttle and do a crazy skew flip while I launch some rockets at an Ogre and scream past an Armageddon while its pulse lasers scorch my hull. I'd pay to play that game, but I'd cry a river if they tried to shoehorn it into what they have here. ======================
