You say that lvl 5's don't matter. Check the range of some sniping fits with large energy turret III (and thus no t2 guns / ammo) and t1 tracking enhancers (trajectory analysis III) compared to ones with skills to lvl 5. We are about a HUGE range difference, to the point where at certain ranges 1 will do full damage and one will do almost none. |

I wonder though how many people would train skills to V if they weren't prerequisites for other skills? |

After nearly 7 years of doing this, you'll find yourself training plenty of unnecessary level 5 skills, trust me. --- All 392 skills trained.

2 people have identical ships doing identical damage. the person with the 5% bonus to damage should win statistically more often. This is the concept of a balanced game.
5% is nothing, sure, but is 10%? 15%? when you add up the bonus of each one of these skills, a bit better chance to hit, a bit more dmg on hit, etc, they add up quite nicely.

How about all of the T2 ship skills to 5? That's my plan for the upcoming year anyway.

Lol, if that happened the following would be the first to end up at level 6 for me:
Electronics lvl 6 - 1,448,154 SP Engineering lvl 6 - 1,448,154 SP Energy Systems Operation lvl 6 - 1,448,154 SP Weapon Upgrades lvl 6 - 2,896,309 SP Energy Management lvl 6 - 4,344,464 SP Advanced Weapon Upgrades lvl 6 - 8,688,928 SP
So more or less exactly one year worth of training for six skills, ouch. On the othe rhand, that would open up for some pretty damn nice ship fits though.

I'd quit eve if they "just" added a lvl VI to all skills without changing anything else.

Good point, they better make it a micro-transaction so you have to pay to have skills unlocked for level 6 training.

A little surprised no body has mentioned this but....
In game I can make a Billion isk faster than I can train a million skillpoints. In a 1 month and ten day period I made 9.5 Bill isk with 2 accounts. I then bought a 50Mill Skillpoint toon for the isk. There isn't any way to train a character from scratch to 50Mill skillpoints in 1 month 10days.....or is there?
How much isk you make doing what and where isn't the point. The logic remains though that if you have the resources and know what your doing, you'll get farther training wise if you buy with isk.
At this point in time the skill que in this game doesn't really even exist to me anymore since I have the ability to skip training all together.

Say you have two rifters, one has 5% more armor due to higher skills. If all else is the same, who do you think will win most often? It will not be a 66% win for skillguy, it will be closer to 80. If you don't die but the other one does, that makes you a winner, it gives you loot, a killmail and e-peen.

How often do uninterrupted 1v1 fights between identically equipped ships piloted by identically skillful players occur?
I'm going to go with "never". It's the EVE equivalent of meeting up with your long lost twin brother than you never knew you had while being struck by lightning during a shark attack.

Indeed, the people with more level 5s have better fitting skills and hence will most likely fit the ships in a way that's not even possible for the level 3 guys.
I mean in RvB I fly meta 0 fitted Rifters (I'm cheap I know), however a low SP char has no chance in hell to fit it the same way as they lack the grid and CPU to do it. However if it's two of them I will probably end up in a pretty explosion regardless.
