Hey, so I read the last thread about ctrl-click and targeting and etc etc. That's a game mechanic when you double-click something you will approach it.
However, I'm finding it amazingly frustrating that I will be aligned to something or even sitting still and I start turning the camera around and *pow* off in some random direction I go.
I went so far as to go into my Mouse and Keyboard settings and change the double-click rate to 1 tick above "fast" and it's still happening ALL. THE. TIME.
Especially when you're in a carrier this becomes increasingly frustrating. Carriers aren't known for the best align times and if you're aligned to somewhere and then notice that you're drifting it takes a few seconds to get back on track.
This seems to happen any time I even hover my mouse over the screen. Actually there is a semi-related bug to whenever I click on a tabbed chat box it will drag it out of the tab, disturbing my tab order. That is really annoying and hasn't been fixed ever since it became a problem.
So, I can whine, but I can also contribute. I am really strongly suggesting as a feature an "anchor" so you may not pass a double click in empty space if you click it. It could be just a simple button or even a right click option on the hud ► triangle such as "Anchor ship" which keeps your ship moving only in the current direction or not at all.
That would stop a lot of frustrations. After all, we don't want to double click but our mouse seems to be sending double click instructions to the server repeatedly.
Just for the record, I have an MX Revolution mouse.

oddly, i had this problem all the time with my touchpad, but switching to my MX revolution more often works rather well in comparison. Id recommend checking mouse settings somewhere else.. does the problem persist in other computers? Perhaps its how you click, now the game itself. OHGODS BELOW THIS LINE IS MY SIG !!!! SRSLY! I had this issue a while back but updating the vid card drivers seemed to have solved it.

i think it would need to be more than just shift - i would be in favor of alt + <key> (user definable) for it.. Of course, then clicking would mean your camera gets reset, but hey.. Maybe control instead would work better. OHGODS BELOW THIS LINE IS MY SIG !!!! SRSLY! Blane Xero > Lance is at -0.9 sec status with a 1 million bounty. Lance is also amarrian. Thats 3 evil points |

Control doesn't work because that's what you use to lock targets.
Seriously, I don't get what it is with people's resistance to having a ship anchor. We are BOATS IN SPACE. We should have anchors to keep us from "drifting at sea."

This happens a lot to my drone boats and only my drone boats (dommy and rattlesnake), so often in fact that I need to constantly check to see that my accounts are not flying off away from my sentry drones wile i'm salvaging with my orca. It's either just more bad programing or ccps way of trying to keep people from afk farming missions, I'm thinking its the latter as annoying as it is for all of us non-afkers because I've heard the same complaint from other drone boat pilots and when i've asked in chat channels only drone boat pilots are having this issue.

Try another one. I've had this problem with my Logitech MX500 as well as with the Intellipoint. Given how similar they look, it's probably even the same hardware.
Anyway, the crappy 3 button wireless mouse I got for my laptop doesn't have this issue.
That is not to say that the UI isn't crap though. Just saying that this particular issue is probably a hardware problem.

nah, itÆs no hardware problem. I know itÆs something within the EVE software. I canÆt explain exactly what is causing this neither how it does it neither why it does it but I know itÆs EVE. How do I know, you may ask? I know because when water is pouring out of a glass this mean there is water in the glass. DonÆt ask for an explanation; itÆs not my problem if you donÆt ôgetö this. Have fun fixing your drivers and stuff because nothing will help until DEVs fix this up for us.
... lastly, if I sound bitter itÆs because I am. You see, my car figured out itÆs time to replace one of itÆs $350 per inch part. eh.

Hmm, I've had this issue too for about 1-2 months. I figured it was just my mouse. It also happens when I move the camera around and all of a sudden I am approaching a target when I don't want to be or decloaking early and I don't notice it.
I always blamed it on my 1 year old Razor copperhead mouse. I've cleaned it a few times to no avail and I am too lazy to do much else as it isn't that big of a deal, just gotta watch my ship more closely.

Hi Siigari!
I have the opposite problem, I always have to click three times to move around because I keep failing to complete my double clicks.

Has cost me ships already (happily orbit gate in logistics ships, get fired upon, suddenly see you are outside jumping distance since apparently you double clicked somewhere).

If you said this 5 years ago you would have been in time. By now i gave up on CCPs ability to make a UI, they pretty much make it worse with every new feature they introduce (serious not a single new player now knows how to find the chat channels window), so they just should give us the ability to make custom UIs.

Come to think of it I started having this problem immediately after the second patch of the last expansion which was about 2 months ago.

I suppose it's pointless, but if you so feel inclined to google "mouse double clicks with one click" you'll probably find that you're wrong.
Apparently, this happens with almost all mice when the microswitches wear down. That would also explain why it doesn't happen with my new crappy laptop mouse :)

…I wonder if this might have something to do with an issue I have been having the last months where (admittedly through a complete failure of hand-eye coordination on my part), I miss one of the "Ok", "Cancel", "Whatever" buttons at the bottom of a dialogue box and instead accidentally grab the lower edge.
Naturally, this causes the game to think that I want to resize the window, and that's fair and all – shame on me for not aiming better – but the problem is that it refuses to let go of the edge when I let go of the mouse button. It's as if, in doing the quick click-but-miss action, the game fails to register the "button up" event and still think the mouse button is being held down. It usually requires a fierce amount of clicking to get it to register that, no, the button is in fact in the up position and stop resizing whatever window it was I wanted to close.
And it's not a matter of the mouse microswitches. It happens on my laptop (with only virtual buttons), it happens with numerous mice of all ages, and across an array of computers.
It wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine that a bug causing the client to miss button-up events would make it think that two mouse clicks, even aeons apart, happened in rapid succession – after all, the second click apparently happened before the first one had even been completed… ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

OMG! I thought it was just me.
I'm so tired of having my mouse cursor being stuck to the resize handle/ bar, and it refuses to let my mouse go!

Well, that's the thing. If I actually want to resize something, and click-and-hold the edge, it will comply just fine – it's seemingly only that quick click-and-release of a standard mouse click that it fails to register. So once I manage to let go of a window after having misclicked, getting it back in order is easy as π. ——— “If you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡… you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.” — Karath Piki |

Can't you, you know, control the double click speed on the mouse driver? So you can compensate for your jitterish accidental-double-click-when-it-should-only-be-one-but-I'm-oh-so-exited. --------
