I'd recommend looking on contracts at t2 bpc's for those ships command ships take almost as high of skills to build as t3 also it takes alot of isk for all parts to build haven't looked at exactly how much but would recommend getting max run t1 bpc's to invent from if using decrypter with runs bonus 1 run if using the dcrypter with best me which is -1

Before you go out and purchase blueprints/invent blueprints, be sure to do the maths first... look for a blueprint on contract and check the material quantities required, then work out just what its going to cost you to manufacture the ship.
Recently there was a change to how ships are made (reducing the amount of high end moon mineral-heavy components to requiring a lot more of the low end moon mineral stuff... so the price on low ends spiked quite a bit... meaning that overall, the price of the ship to build went up somewhat.
Slow moving ships (nighthawks and vultures) might still have a lot of stock of pre-dominion models left, which may be much cheaper than what you could make them for these days, especially as I had heard a lot of people would struggle to make anything on nighthawks/vultures because the margins were so razor thin.
But as for the steps:
1) Get T1 BPO, do a copy (single run if you dont want to use a decryptor with a runs bonus, and full run if you want to make the most of any runs bonus as a full run BPC gets a 1+ decryptor runs output, whereas a less than full run BPC gets 0+the decryptor bonus number of runs, with a minium of 1.) 2) Do an invention run on the blueprint you had, expect to need to do about 3-6 to get a success 3) Purchase either the components, or advanced moon minerals required to build the ship. If you have a set of component blueprints, i'd reccomend buying the advanced minerals so you can shave the margin that the pre-made components would get back in your favour. 4) Make a T1 varient of the ship from your BPO or another BPC you have (or again, buy from the market, but youre best off having the margin from that in your favour) 5) Run the Tech 2 job in a manufacturing slot. Be aware that in most cases, you will need additional skills when making ships (cruiser construction for instance, which also requires frigate construction) and so on.

Step 1. Do the math to make sure you can manufacture and sell it at a profit.
Step 2. Make sure their is enough demand to make it worthwhile. No point in selling one ship every 2 months. Look for the average units transacted a day, and the number of units on the market.
There's a bunch of good info on invention in the sticky at the top of the forum.
