Edited by: Nnam Pir on 23/03/2010 17:25:07 My lows are all taken by cargo expanders so Armor Tanking isn't very attractive for me as a hauler, so I was looking for input on improving the shield tank fit I have going. All constructive input is appreciated. I'm not the best at fitting shield stuff and what I have now I really just threw together on the fly. I was just happy I could fit T2 stuff at the time.
I'd move into a Transport Ship but the only ones available right now for me (skill-wise) are the Gallente ones, and the Occator has only two Mids and the Viator has poop cargo space, so I'm not planning to move into either anytime soon.

First time poster here, so at the risk of getting flamed.
What do you need the tank for? If you are looking at AFK autopilot I don't think you can fit enough tank to survive. If not I have had a lot better luck keeping my iteron V alive with agility rigs. lowering the align time has saved my bacon more times then I can count. With that said I use a similar set up minus the recharger and sub an ECM as a super last ditch.

I'd probably skip the recharger as it'll never have enough time to help you more than greater resists.
Also check out the effect of invulns.
After surviving 2 suicide attempts, the 2nd with only a smidgeon of hull left I've come to the conclusion that it's not worth going near Jita unless I'm in a transport, and with one of those you can afk with a reasonably decent valued cargo. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- you seem determined to turn it into ******* Hollyoaks for neckbeards. |

I do plan on having Agility Rigs, for sure. The tank is mostly just a peace-of-mind issue (until it actually becomes useful!) but I'm not using Jita, I'm in a much less-populated region with a separate trade hub so I don't think I'll be seeing as many suiciders (comparatively) as I'd see there. I'll definitely see how that does for me, thanks!

You can fit three medium shield extenders and one Invuln field on an Ity V trivially, and still fit a 10MN AB.
That's enough tank to prevent a solo gank around Jita, and if you're hauling anything worth hauling, you can afford the t2. 10MN AB since you'll get scrammed before webbed usually.
Base Ity V EHP: 4,159 (3,160 with cargo II's) Given 5x Cargo II's: t1 fitted Ity V EHP: 8,641 t2 fitted Ity V EHP: 11,091
a second Inv II gives more EHP (13,983) than a second medium extender II.
NOTE: all of this is from my hauling alt's skills, not skill V. I think a level 3-4 skilled character is more realistic if you have to ask how to tank an Ity. Assume about 10% more EHP for skill V characters.

But that comes down to 1.6 million ity V with fittings VS 100 Million Transport with fittings...
One is darn near fully insurable, the other is really not. And lets face it, if someone is really truly set up to gank you, your not getting away from them, or their buddies on the other side of the gate.
The Intakis have an obligation to defend the Federation, but not to assult others on its behalf. |

Well, he was ruling out the transport ships rather because the Gallente ones are not meant for shield tanking.
Which brings me on to the topic. I'm for the moment trying to get something similar for my alt. This is what I'm planning to use at first:
[Badger Mark II, highsec passive] Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II Expanded Cargohold II
Magnetic Scattering Amplifier II Heat Dissipation Amplifier II Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II Medium Shield Extender II
[empty high slot] [empty high slot]
Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
20k ehp with max lvl 5 skills, so I'm aiming at having all at 4 so around 19500 for me. got around 12-13k m3 depending on industry skill.
After this I don't know what to go for. I'll probably go Mastadon or Badger, both gets around 55k ehp and 22k m3 cargo with full passive tank. Probably the hulls design that will make me decide eventually ^^
The impel is a beast though, been able to fit 77k ehp tank, but yeah, sucks that it's armor which gives it quite small cargo. Although I usually don't haul 22k, and if I would it would be all my loot from 0.0 and I wouldn't passive haul that much goodies. Another downside with armor is that if Id go for badger m2 first and then impel I would have so much more to train. Impatient is impatient :)
