Just started about 2 weeks ago and I did a bunch of the tutorial and easy missions to get up to about 3 mil. I was given an Iteron I as a reward for one of the mission. I have the cargo hold expanded to a modest space. I read everything about the market and trading on EVELOPEDIA I could and read a bunch of forum posts. So I started spending LOTS of time investigating products, using the market, figuring out how to use the map, and now run NPC goods through hi-sec (buy low, sell high) usually no more than 8 jumps max, then grab something for my return trip to sell at home. I usually clear about 150,000 to 400,000 ISK per run and in a couple days (about 8 hours) have made about 6mil. I generally have to sink about 3 mil into product to fill up my cargo. Just looking for some reassurance that I am on the right track here, I am training up my industrial/flying skills and working on trading skills intermitently. I actually enjoy doing the runs, but I would like an experienced player to advise me if my time is being spent wisely or if I could be doing something to expand faster. Thanks for reading my life story!!!

Yeah I missed that one, I should have clarified that I was reading Market Discussion forums, not forum posting forums.

It's one method of trading, sure. Though NPC goods are notoriously low return for the effort invested - they're also quite low risk. Slightly higher risk is to do the same thing, but with normal player goods over NPC goods. Or just place a low buy order, then resell those same items at a higher price in the same station.
There's a few ways to go about trading - the above being among the most basic and "entry level" - and you're not limited to pursuing only one.
While hauling around your NPC goods, check the markets. You may find Item A is selling absurdly cheaply in one region, compared to a different region. Then you can start hauling Item A around for even better profits. Or you may see Item B has very low buy orders at a particular station, but very high sell orders at that same station. Then you can stop by that station as you haul to buy/resell. And so on.
And you'll never get an answer, if you rage-edit and pout every time you get trolled ;) ----------------

Thanks for the advice Lui Kai. Definitely some things to think about. On a side, I don't really care if a bunch of jerks don't give me advice. Just browsing the forums I've noticed some dork has to be rude on every post. Like being good at an online game makes you superior for some reason.
