I'm looking at the situation for the last couple of days, and there's a lot of movement involved.
Technetium is jumping up and down. Neodymium went from 24k+ to 19k with no buyers Vanadium is going to crash very soon (buy/sell last week was 800/1300, now its 1300/1800). Seems like the same happened to neo not long ago.
What I find odd is that despite all these movements, there's not much actual trade being done. I have stocks with some of the top selling (by volume) minerals, and even though i have both buy and sell orders and keep them somewhat updated, there's no selling/buying. Just as if it is only traders who operate in this space, not manufacturers and moon harvesters.
What gives? What will happen next? Let the speculations run wild! ;-)

Nothing :). Technetium will be weird for a long time, but the other minerals are trading as expected for me.
I will have your stuff. |

I dabbled in technetium and other minerals recently, but they're prices were FAR too volatile and the units never really moved. I canceled out orders I had in those markets and moved to slightly slower-paced items with higher spreads and I haven't yet regretted that decision. There was one item in particular that I didn't have to alter my buy order for almost two days and moved over 2000 units.... I was still checking every 5 minutes though.

Lots of markets are going up and down right now. Speculation is quite rampant, most obvious with the recent Neo price rollercoaster this week. In the last 2 and a half weeks or so even some lower-end minerals like Vanadium, Titanium and Scandium have a lot of manipulation. Especially in the case of Vanadium the price has been maintain buy further product buyouts after the initial spike has occurred, keeping the artifically high price high.

I think that the price on minerals like Vanadium might crash suddenly, when people who actually mine the minerals will dump their stock on the market. They don't need to strictly follow any rules, and might drive the price back again towards ASK price.
On the other hand, manufacturers and other investors will surely hold back until this passes.
Other minerals are suffering from the same issue, and lemmings. Undercutting top sell orders by 100ISK on a ~2.4k price is quite a lot, and people are lemminging in. Someone tries to get a lot of stock cheap to withhold and increase more demand, to dump it back at a higher profit.
Naughty traders, naughty.

Other than long-term trends, I'd say all bets are always off - daily/weekly fluctuations are almost completely impossible to predict, unless you're the one causing them.

My personal speculation is that it's due to the crash in sell price for various reactions. Instead of the 2bil isk per month that was possible on items such as nanotransistors, fullerides, etc. it's now seldom possible to get over 400-500mil isk profit (before fuel costs).
I think many of the players who jumped into reacting to make huge profits have realised that it's not as profitable anymore and are not purchasing more stocks of input mats.
This has put the moon goo market into a bit of a stagnation atm and I don't see it changing for a while as many are still trying to sell off their old stocks.
That said, these are my personal thoughts on the matter and I do not have any degrees in marketing or such, so I could be wildly off and it has nothing to do with any of this |
