i bought a caracal blueprint a few months ago and thought i would do a bit of research on it, so now i have the production level to 12 and the material level to 26.
I can also get 15 runs per copy..
so i looked on contracts to see if its worth copying it and i noticed that some caracal blueprint copies with worse stats are selling for around 200k and they only do 1 run on the copies..
so im just wondering whether to copy it yet ? and how many times can i copy it ?
also, once i have copied it can i then do more research on it ?
thanks in advance for answering any of my questions..
im also unsure as to why i can get 15 runs outa my copies when ive looked a few others and they seem less, many of them are only 1 run copies..

1 run ship copies are either used for invention (Caracal -> Cerberus), or for those people wanting to build their own (typically new players).
You can copy a BPO an infinite number of times.
You cannot improve a BPC, but you can always do more research on the BPO.
BPC are only useful for invention or manufacturing.

Edited by: killer android on 30/03/2010 18:39:59 thanks Tau, i quite fancy a Cerberus actually..
i have read that invention has a lot of luck involved ? how do i get my bpc so that it is a 1 run copy?
thx again..

When you make the copies, it should have a place to enter the number of runs per copy that you want. The base success chance for cruiser invention is 25%. This can be improved with decryptors and skills and whatnot, but the invention will get more expensive.

It is worth noting that if you plan on using decryptors to increase your T2 BPC runs you need to use a full run copy of the T1 BPC (i.e. 15 runs). If you're not using decryptors you can use a 1 run BPC (it's usually cheaper) as the possible T2 BPC will always have at least one run.
The invented T2 BPC will always be a -4/-4 copy (unless modified by a decryptor) so the T1 ME/PE doesn't really matter for invention.
But you should check the invention guides to get a better understanding of the whole process before you leap in. ______________________

Quoted for truth.
However I must stress that there seem to be a large amount of random chance involved. Also don't read the success / failure messages. They will annoy you.
Also have you run the numbers and seen if you can make money from the BPC by manufacturing the ships?
