I recently bought giant secure containers to mine/transport ore more easy.
they have two main restrictions: must be placed minimum 5km from asteroids and minimum 5km distance from other players container is required.
For one or other reason I just can't drop or anchor one container. I always get message that the asterois belt is too near or a container is too close. But in the overview I see none of them closer than 5km.
did I miss a skill or something? Or is lvl 1 anchoring not sufficient enough?

I think you need to be in 0.7 sec space or lower.
But not 100% sure. Been a while since I anchored a container.

Make sure you click select all on overview settings also could be something there not on your overview and using gsc's is a pain on a hulk one cycle will more then fill one better off getting an alt in a hauler or mining in a fleet with an orca

When you drop the container in space, it will typically be 100m or so from your ship, if you are trying to tweak the placement really close, that 100m can be enough to put the container within 5k of something else, even though you are not.

Thanks to all who replied I sorted the problem out.
I was very lucky to find an nicely lined up asteroid field without other player containers so I could experiment a bit.
The point you warp in to an asteroid field counts as an obstacle. Even wrecks block your containers if they are within 5km distance so equip your container dropper with a salvager.
Giant secure containers are released randomly 1km around your ship so for tight lining up it becomes tricky.
needles to say that belt is now spammed with my containers
