The most wildly popular EVE trailer in history needs a makeover. Now that all the new ship skins, station skins and planets have been added to the game, it's time to take the best EVE video in history and give it a facelift.
Whenever I'm trying to recruit people to play EVE, I always show them two videos: EVE Never Fades and Butterfly Effect.
Whenever I'm feeling a little bit down while playing EVE, I'll go to my EVE videos folder and fire up EVE Never Fades for a dose of "Oh yeah, THIS is why I play!"

I agree, good idea.
But please PLEASE don't use that terrible narrator like in the Butterfly video. That guy really spoilt it for me tbh. He sounds like some strange american insurance sales man or something.

It's what got me into the game, and while the trailers after this were very "cool" in terms of effects, post-editing (and out of game added visual effects); Eve Never Fades had the heart of the game in mind. I prefer that to all the "butterfly effect" promotional content.

Oh I agree entirely. EVE Never Fades really captures the essence of the game; from the soundtrack to the video editing it is pure win. Just needs a facelift!
As far as the butterfly effect video, I personally like that one a lot, but the primary reason I show it to all my friends is because it really sums up the endless options that any one pilot has in this game and I think that attracts a lot of people who are really tired of being held back by Classes, Levels and Skill Trees that are 99% of other MMO's on the market.

The content is not what I'm opposed to, it's the added effects on top of the regular engine that bugs me. They used to have this unwritten rule that they would put nothing in the videos that wasn't in the game. I liked that idea, because it forced them to be creative with what's inside the game, rather than After Effects.

One of the greatest trailers. It fits together really well, the music, the visuals. Seeing it updated would be awesome.

Ohh, so I'm not the only one bothered by this.
I also think there is strong marketing power in "all scenes captured ingame". I troll gametrailers.com every other day to see whats new, and like 90% of the high budget titles have nothing to do with what you'd see ingame. Which is partly understandable because ingame scenes of fps or rts are rarely sexy. EVE is built to look cinematic (once you remove overview), and it should take advantage of that.
The only downside is when they do, its clear the effects are pretty terrible compared to the models. I understand they need to make effects that are scalable to hundreds of people on a single grid but why can't they make ultra high quality effects and let people decide for themselves.

I heard a rumor yesterday that this video had actually been produced by a fan and not CCP themselves. Is there any truth to this rumor and if so does the fan who produced it still play so we can hit him/her up for a new version?

I heard that the guy who made EVE never fades got hired by CCP. But I may be wrong. There was a guy that made excellent videos for BOB and he got hired by CCP. I'm not sure if it is the same guy or whether the "never fades" video was made by CCP prior to hiring (DireLauthris I think was his name, also responsible for Day of darkness afaik.)

Edited by: Dex Timor on 02/04/2010 01:35:13 There was another person famous (in that time period, 2007) for excellent videos:
Loxyrider
At this point I think we might need a Dev, Mod, or Eve historian to solve the mystery.

There have been three EVE players that were hired for their video editing skills:
Zond3, who did EVE Never Fades for his debut as CCP staff. Before that he was a member of M. Corp and his videos were the first put on the official video page.
I believe Loxyrider of MC fame was brought on board at some point for a while.
And of course Dire Lauthris, who did the two Day of Darkness videos. He was hired afterwards to work on the Dominion trailer iirc.
