Quick question: I know with rats, useing torps (even ones being fired from a SB) on frigs does not do much damage. I take it the same holds true for player frigs?
Not sure why there'd be a difference, just hearing different things from corp mates. Although most of it seems to be guess work.

The only time torps do any kind of damage to frigs is when they are sitting still with their MWD on. Other then that? Their damage is negligible if they even hit the thing. Yeah I am a pirate. What are you gonna do about it? http://www.wi-alliance.com/killboard/?a=pilot_detail&plt_id=32678 http://roadkill.igs-corp.net/?a=pilot_detail&plt_id=32678 |

On a volley of 5,400: I do about 50 on target damage to a moving frigate.
Just about worthless. Use your drones, or if you are a SB: RUN/Cloak.

I have only ever seen a cruise raven fielded as a long range anti-support setup by some one to afraid to lose their mission raven.
Shame he didn't notice my alt getting 150 from me and within 30 of him.

Hey there. Torp damage is calculated based off signature radius, as I'm sure you know. The actual math is along the lines of: (Frigate Signature Radius) x (100) / (Torpedo [Missile] Explosive Radius) = (Percentage of possible delivered damage)
So then you multiply the torpedo's damage by the percentage.
The results you get are usually minimal. Ex: You fire a Bane torpedo at a resistance-less frigate. 450 damage 450 explosive radius Frigates have around a 35m signature radius, give or take.
35m(100) / 450 = 7.77% 450 x 0.0777 = 34.965 explosive damage
So, you fire a torpedo at a resistance-less frigate, your maximum potential for damage is about 35, ignoring skills. There are plenty of skills that reduce the penalty, but not enough to make it useful. Also keep in mine that ships do have resistances... So your chances of doing more to it than it will do to you are very slim.
Sorry for the long-winded reply, I've heard plenty of hearsay on the topic, and most of it wrong. The formula is generally the same when used on Npcs or players. You can fix this by stacking target painters on a frigate, or using drones to compliment your launchers, or carrying a smaller set of armaments to deal with them. Fly safe.
tl;dr: Torpedos turn into pillows when used against frigates, I suggest you dont.

at least vs players, you have bombs on a SB to take care of the small stuff. ;)
