Following up on a post by a fellow GD poster (https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=129173), I'd be curious about everyone's thoughts on this:
What if CCP decided to go the Battle.net/Blizzard route and REQUIRE Real ID logins? Would you still post? Trolling aside, would you want your real identification known to those of this forum that are clealy unbalanced and stalk posters using Facebook and Twitter?
I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. |

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I thought that Blizzard made Real ID optional after the fiasco with the ceo trying to post with his real ID and having scores of information about himself show to him by the community. |

Real ID? lol... people will get multiple accounts paid with different credit cards , with different email addresses, different everything. Many of this is already done by big alliance spy toons (lots of stuff show on the api). It can't be enforced and besides, spying with alts posing as mains IS valid gameplay. |

After a quick Google (no clue, I don't play WoW) it looks like they plan to make it required (or have)... Real ID required
Anyway, it would be curious to see. |

It would introduce a whole new type of meta game. One where I **** and kill people and send cleverly written letters to Interpol full of deliverate typos. Just think of the attention Eve would get. Moderate strength is shown in violence, supreme strength is shown in levity. |

Different names on different credit cards? That's illegal here in the states (except for married ladies), but since I don't know where you live I can't speak for your country. |

US law doesn't consider your name "private and personal information", but I don't know about your country of origin. Perhaps you can enlighten us about that. |

It's too risky.
Some few people in my corp who I've known in game for many years now know my real name.. but other than that.. no thanks. |

I can call myself anything I want on Blizzard forums. So if CCP initiated the rule, I could still have snappy names like "soundwave plays diablo" and "****** *****".

Here, let me make the obvious question even more obvious for you:
What if CCP required a verified login identification (similar in nature to a verifiable proposed Real ID system (not that proposed for use by Blizzard)) to post on the EveO forums, would you still post?
Initial question seemed obvious to me, but I'm not into ankle-biting. |

The strictly hypothetical question was already answered by somebody else. CCP would have to ban themselves because they violated their own EULA.
Also, who's to say I'm not posting with my real name already? |

I would not be fazed by it, for the same reasons Pinstar mentioned in the other thread (regarding reputations). I do understand that it would probably make me near-impossible to be involved in certain types of corp here, but that just goes with the territory. I'd probably leverage the opportunity by finally starting a PI scouting report service (just to help the occasional High Sec person, and I enjoy doing it).
BTW, I'm equally at home just in chat or forums - I do not need the ships or avatar portions of the game to enjoy it. Just the people. But on that same note, I need to find people I'm willing to connect with, and lack of trust within Eve is a crucial barrier to that.
I may have come here from Myst Online, but that does not make me any less bloodthirsty than the average Eve player.
Just more subtle.

Considering that the only people I badmouth on these forums are actual individuals on the CCP staff, they who already know or have access to my real identity, I can't see how it would make a difference in my case.
That being said, the reason I only attack CCP is because they DO know who I am. I am not so petty that I would antagonize people anonymously.
By the same token, under no circumstance would I let you psychopathic lot know who I am. If real ID were required I simply wouldn't post. |
